She'd been at the river when the pangs had begun. Random ideas and thoughts had been bothering her all the more lately and fought to be heard as she grumbled hurriedly towards her chosen den. She'd found it weeks ago. Meskeet had no intention of giving birth anywhere where she could be discovered.

Least of all near Arguin.

The shallow den she'd decided on was barely large enough for her, let alone the three young forms beside her. But somehow she'd managed to lay comfortably and weigh her options. Arguin's intentions were blindingly clear to her. With two sons he had only more the reason to abandon her and flee with her offspring. Not that she cared. She didn't like them any of them after all.

Her upper lip lifted distastefully as she eyed the three pups. How could she like them? Ugly little rats. Especially the lone girl. Only one pup caught her eye in an atleast half pleasant manner. Because he had no blue present.

She'd dump the girl somewhere. Before any one could see the creature her body had unwillingly produced. Arguin wouldn't believe her if she said all the pups had died. But perhaps he'd believe her if she said she'd only carried one. Seperating herself from all of them wouldn't be hard. But perhaps if she kept one..

Just one. Perhaps that would redeem her if Phantom felt any ill feelings at her unplanned pregnancy. After all, he didn't carry any ugly blue, so there was some hope. She was entitled to keeping one of her own children, wasn't she?

Damn that woman. Damn her to hell. Arguin was trudging along, least bit happy, he was pissed to all hell. Meskeet had dared to leave where he had last seen her. He told her to stay there, for the look of her stomach the pups would be arriving soon. But no, she moved. Least this would all be voer soon. He'd take what males she gave birth to, and let her on her way. She did afterall say she wanted nothing to do with them. Yet Arguin hoped there wasn't a girl, he was sure that now he despised all females.

"Meskeet where the hell are you?!" his voice spoke outwards and harsh. He was now approaching the den site, hopefully she'd be there, though he knew he wouldn't be able to get inside, it was too small to begin with. Perhaps he could at least glimpse at his sons.

----------------

Wriggling besides Meskeet lay a little ball of extreme blue fluff and fur. Squeaking and squeaking she tried to nestle herself next t her mother's stomach, but two other round furry thing were in the way! She was so hungry!

She squealed again, hoping that the two furry things would move but they didn't. Whinging she tried crawling over them, the mass of blue toppling onto the brown before her. Why was she getting pushed away?! It was so cold out here, and she was so hungry!

The world was a soft and fuzzy haze. It was hard to tell exactly what was going on- but all he knew was that something drastic had changed. No longer was he weightless and undisturbed, warm forever and unhungry. Breathing- it burned his body to keep up the compulsive action, but it seemed impossible now to stop. Even when he thought about stopping, his body willed it back. How cruel!

There were bodies besides him- he had felt them before as well, but he was eager to have them gone. Mother was close- and as he buried his small head against her fur, he could focus on nothing else. Their warmth was appreciated- but as it was, he was already feeling them slowly drifting further and further away. Were they floating? Drifting? Whatever was happening, as long as it did not separate him from the smell of milk and the warmth of his mother’s deep brown fur. It was a warmth that flooded across the center of his head and down to the ends of his toes. Mother!

There was one in particular that was making a terrible fuss. He couldn’t hear it- but he could feel her occasionally paw at him amidst her whimpering. With faint squeak and a thrust of his weak white paws, he pushed further against the body- as if even touching her would loose the warmth, and cause him to drift away with her.

Dorian squeaked miserably, and found a teat to distract himself. Still not away- let those others go away.

It didn't make sense. Dozens of signals rumbled through her head, but none of them connected and instead spiralled in odd directions as they bounced off each other. But some bumping was better than none and Malady had a vague sense that now was not the time to be present. She knew Kes would be in that hole she called a den, and she could smell the faint traces of something that occured every so often during the year. Pups and all the mess that went along with them. Despite that she continued numbly down the frequently trodden path towards the den. She'd watched a bird drown this morning. Kes would undoubtably love to hear about it.

By some luck she arrived at the compact enterance before Arguin, whom she'd yet to even hear of despite the fact that Meskeet often came back to her smelling distinctly of the male. Her eyes opened fully, not usual for her, and she yelped as her startled jump backwards caused her to hit her head.

Puppies. Not puppies. The scary little monsters were going to eat her!

Cold was something as unknown. As was much of this strange new lot of feelings. Before now he'd only known the warmth, comfortable confinement, and constant satisfaction of always being fed. Now he was grateful to simply be huddled where he was. Tucked safely away under the cover of his mother's fur.

He could feel another on one side of him being slowly pushed away. Shrieking noisily at the creeping cold he nosed foreward for warmth. As he did so he bumped against another source of warmth and began to suckle contently.

Meskeet glared up at her cousin as she felt atleast two of her pups nurse. It was an odd feeling and while it didn't particularly bother her, it was something she was greatly unused too. The mere pressence of them against her was startling. For a wolf who spent many nights curled around herself against a tree it was almost pleasant. But all pleasantries had to be put aside at some time or another.

Expressionless she shifted herself around the small hole until she was free of all pups. She nosed the small female pup back towards her sons as she stepped cautiously out.

Things were as she'd feared, but not to the greatest extent, yet. Arguin was coming. Not what she would have liked at the moment, but certainly better than any other wolf. Only now she had to decide.

Phantom's reaction she could only guess though she knew well his dislike for pups. His reaction to a son might be considerably better. Arguin would be undoubtably pleased to see a son. All the more reason to take the boys and leave the girl. But she disliked one of the boys almost as much as the girl.

Perhaps more.

While the mostly blue pup carried far more traits of Arguin, there was some visable likeness to herself. Maybe she wouldn't be a complete waste. If she was there was still no reason why she couldn't be destroyed later on.

The blue and brown son though..he was odd. He simply felt off. If Arguin were to recieve any of the pups it would have to be this one. It was a son which would satisfy Arguin's plans, and it was odd enough that she would be happily rid of it.

Bristling she craned her neck back into the den and withdrew the brown and blue pup and placed him gently on the ground, ignoring his increasingly loud squeals of fright. "Lay with them until I get back, and don't make a sound."

She let her meaning be known with a bristling growl. Unhappy with leaving the other two behind with Malady she took the pup by the scruff of his neck once more and made her way hurriedly down the path. It took a short lot of minutes before she caught sight of Arguin's blue coat through the brush.

Malady climbed awkwardly into the hole. What was small for Meskeet was considerably roomy for her. Despite that she settled with her back blocking the enterance hole and gaped terrified at the pups. There were few things scarier in this world than these cruel harmless looking creatures. The little liars.

Squealing the blue furred female pup tried to adjust herself while she felt herself being kicked by the furry thing. Then Meskeet got up and she squeaked again. No, the warm and the food was getting away! If she was old enough to cry she would, it was so cold and she was so hungry. She felt herself being pushed back into one furry thing, one of the two seemed to just vanish into thin air.

What was happening?

Arguin kept his pace up until he caught her scent and could see Meskeet in front of his slat gray eyes, "Did you just think you'd run off and have them? What if something went wrong and you got hurt?!" He spoke loudly, then his glaring eyes cast downward as he saw her holding a puppy within her maw. He leaned forward adn sniffed at the tiny creature, it seemed healthy enough...and it was a boy.

Arguin has a son.

Something wasn't right though. Surely the pup old as it was couldn't live far from Meskeet, still having yet to be weaned...but only one? No. That couldn't be right. There was another unfamiliar scent upon Meskeet as well.
"He can't be weaned off just yet, you know that..." he spoke amtter of factly.

"Where are the others?" Arguin was still captivated by his son. Yes, he had the brown color of Meskeet but the blue markings of Arguin which made him proud. Arguin hoped there were more, more boys. No girls. Arguin would despise a daughter.

Crawling somewhat forward towards the entrance of the den (but not without flailing her legs and hitting the furry thing that had kicked her) she crept forward. Her head bumping into another big warm thing. It was in the way! She squealed at Malady unknowing of who she was. She wanted her mother!

Panic fled through the small brown creature’s body. Another warmth was here- but this was not his Mother. This was an imposter! He did not want this! Meekly he whined and coughed his anger bitterly, his lips still sticky with milk, and it came out a strangled peep. What had happened? Why had everything changed?

Still the other lump was beside him, and nervously, he clutched towards her despite the fact that he had not previously liked her presence. Anything familiar- this other was not.

Shivering against the unfamiliarity, the small brown boy nosed underneath the girl's side- while keeping one paw on her face so she did not lean too close into him.

An ear went flat as Malady began to frantically jerk. Many things in life scared her, puppies were definately high on the list. With a choked back meep she wiggled her way backwards and out of the den. Kes would be so mad if she left the little devils. But they frightened her to a terrific extent.

Reaching hurriedly back inside she grabbed the pup that looked the least intimidating. The brown boy. Jittery with nerves she slipped into the small shadows and disappeared in the clusters of leaves and branches. She wouldn't be gone for long. She just had to get away from both potential threats until Kes got back. Then she would be able to observe instead of interact. Her mind whirled with surprise at the tiny form clutched carefully in her jaws. She desperately didn't want to get into trouble.

The blue and brown pup squirmed in his mother's grip. He didn't like this feeling. He felt little warmth and nothing solid against him. Yipping in dislike he batted one paw foreward and attempted to curl up. Why couldn't he be back on the ground? He wanted to bump against those fuzzy things that were the same size as him. Not the nothingness he was now dangling in.

Meskeet's brow furrowed. She sat and set the pup down beside her feet which he instantly crawled towards and bumped against feverently. She was aware he would get cold soon. All the more reason for Arguin to refrain from lecturing her.

"There is only one other. A precious little girl." Her voiced twisted with venom at mention of the blue pup. "I will not nurse them on Outrider lands and I will not nurse them on my own packlands. You will get your son as long as you let me do things my way. No harm will come to them, they won't be discovered, and I'll bring hem both to you as soon as they are weaned. But I won't be kept like your pet."

She didn't think it would work, but she really couldn't think of anything else. She hadn't been an adult for very long. None of this had ever happened to her before. It was entirely confusing, but she didn't want him discovering the third pup. He surely would if he got his way. If only pups were born weaned. Things would be much easier.

Suddenly she was all alone. That bigger thing that wasn't her mommy disappeared and took the remaining fuzzy warm thing with her. Why was everyone leaving her alone?! She curled up into a ball, it was so cold. She whined to herself and tried curling against the side of the den for warmth but it didn't matter. Everything here was cold now. Too cold for her liking. She shrunk up into a ball of blue fur and shivered and shook, she was all alone again, and she didn't like it.

----

Arguin's brow furrowed as he listened to Meskeet talk. She was such an annoying woman sometimes, but deep down he did care for her, but he would never really express it because he believed she might just run away and he'd never see her again. But at the mentioning of a female pup he frowned,
"I don't want the female...just my son..." His slate eyes cast down on the little bundle of brown and blue by Meskeet's feet. But then something occured to him.

"Won't the other get cold all alone?" but he really didn't care, he didn't want a daughter, it was better that the female died of natural causes then of him having to kill her himself.

But he nodded his head to her statement, "Raise them off of these lands but if you must, but I will raise my son here by my side, do what you will with the girl..." Arguin's brother was still here, and he still wanted to be close even if they weren't as close as brothers. Here would be a fine place to raise his son, he'd grow strong, perhaps even stronger then Phib one day.

Something still didn't fit right, why would she only bring the male and not the female to show him as well...unless Meskeet was hiding something. "Are you positive their are no others?" then he got an idea, just to see if Meskeet was telling the truth or not, "Why don't I follow you back to teh den, to make sure you get there safetly..." he just wanted to make sure Meskeet was telling the truth, but he didn't want to see the girl...unless she had died by now.
