Mteule looked to the midnight-hued lioness with blue orbs, and began to explain the pride's history as more fruit rained down now and then.
"The Divide is what we use to refer to the time when our pride went two seperate ways... Years ago, the Mbingu and the Ardhi came to be at ends with one another, feuding over who our goddess favored more. Many of the Mbingu had become arrogant in their belief that they were closer to her, being colored after the heavens, and began to look down on our Earth-brothers and sisters. Most of the lions left, and Kiva didn't communicate with us for years afterwards. Shortly after the Divide a plague hit the valley and killed many of our remaining members... Kauta lost all of her siblings and both of her parents, our prior king and queen, to the plauge. We also lost the Heaven-priest and Matifu's sister lost most of her children and her mate. For the last few years we've been forced to reside in the jungle instead of the valley until the plague passed..."
"Of course, now things are looking up for us." Matifu called down, voice soothing the affects of Mteule's words. "It was a lesson in humility for all of us. The pride used to stay split between the two sides, even though we all lived and worked together. The bloods are mingling more now. My own three sons were the first born of both Earth and Sky, the first to have it truely show on their pelts."
"Kiva's doing, I'm sure." Mteule smiled and nodded, looking to Matifu. "I think that's probably enough fruit, Matifu, we should also find someplace cold to store it so it won't rot in the sun until it's time."

Chamiyu listened intently, storing away all the knowledge given to her in files at the back of her mind, just like she had when she listened to all the information given to her by dear Mteuli when they first met each other. What a horrible thought, Chamiyu pondered sadly, that such a plague would strike and take with it so many lions. But, then there was that happiness that things were going to get better.
"That is truely a remarkable tale indeed. And it's better yet that the future already seems brighter." Then, looking around, her train of thought was quickly changed as she observed the number of fallen fruits about them. "I hope everyone at the feast is hungry." She lamented with a happy grin, stooping once again to gather the fruits and place them in Mteule's basket.
After a moment of thought, the lioness offered, "We should put them in a cave until the feast if we're not to dry them."

"A good idea." Mteule replied kindly, alert for any calls, just then. "However, Matifu and I have a bit more gathering to do first in preperation for tomorrow, and you've your herbs to tend to. If we keep you any longer I fear they'll be crushed under all this fruit, or dry out before you've a chance to yourself." The priest chuckled good naturedly.
Matifu landed next to them with a great big THUMP and promptly pouted at the idea of parting with such pleasurable company so soon.
"Already?"
"Yes, you've terrorized her enough for one sitting." He chuckled again, waiting for Chamiyu to retrieve her flowers.

Surprised by the large noise as Matifu landed nearby, the black lioness gave an amused shrill of laughter and shook her black velvet head with laughter.
Chamiyu leaned her head into the basket and pulled out her flowers, momentarily resting them on the ground as he gave each lion a friendly parting nuzzle. "It has been an honor and a pleasure gathering these fruits with you and I look forward with each minute to the oncoming festival. And you're right! My flowers have already begun to wilt and I need to dry them soon. Otherwise I'll need to spend another day searching for these hide-n-go-seek little buggers."
Then, with a kindly smile, Chamiyu bid the two great lions farewell and began her trip back to her den, her flowers in her mouth and a kind mirthful atmosphere about her.
