I bought a new plant today but I bought it at walmart so I don't know for sure what kind it is and before I do a watered down bleach treatment on it to kill all the harmful stuff from their tanks I was wondering if anyone knew of a site I could look at to help indentify it and make sure I don't do anything to kill the plant itself. For the time being I put it in my 2gal tank along with 2 female guppies I bought today to since they all came from the same tank in the store. Also if any has any info on helping live plants live in tanks I could sure use the help.

Well, if you take a picture of the plant I can give you a full description of what ph it likes and everything and I can get some opinions from other people uppon what type of lighting it needs. Also I'm goingo to move this to Freshwater later today but I have to go now bye

okay, I'm back lol uhm, your females are probably pregnant and all those babies wont have enough room in a 2 gallon tank. A good site about planted tanks is Aqua Botanic, they have stuff for beginers and advanced aquarists, but I dont know if they have a picture database like what you would need. It does however talk about lighting needs and also CO2, but for your 1 plant all you would need is an air pump or a hang-on-back filter. If you still need more help I can help you out. I'll move your post later today to the freshwater, but my computers being slow and I'm in no hurry

In my main community tank I have a bubbler, hang on the back filter and a tank decoration with a built in bubbler as well. Also I have a fluresent (sp?) grow lightblub installed in my hood. Along with a standard heater that came with my setup, then tank itself has been setup for over a year and I haven't added fish since I set it up, its all my guppies I started with plus their babies, I do tend to remove babies and give them away to other people though so that controls the population.I'll upload a picture in a bit but the best I can tell its a amazon sword plant.

hmm...I can look that up later, the only thing you might need is if you start adding more plants then there won't be enough CO2 even from air pumps. You can make them yourself out of a coke bottle and a few other things, also you can get these tablet things that are like miricle grow for fish tanks lol so if you want to keep adding fish thats something you should look into

What would you say is the best method for getting algae off plants (w/out damaging them)?

I usually do it very gently with my thumb and index finger, just rub gently, dont pull on them .
