I don't see why anime would be considered childish while manga(the same thing on paper) isn't. If one is for kids, so is the other.
Other than that, I'm not suprised by the article. Most anime are aimed at elementry and middle school kids. There are series for older audiences, but most people still aren't interested. It's just like a different genre; like some people love fantasy books, but most don't bother or only read the occassional book.
I'm into a lot of things the general public is not, and anime is one of them... But at least anime is popular enough to be able to get a hold of ^_^;

There are some aimed at adults: The Simpsons, South Park, Family Guy and Futurama being leading exponents recently. But the vast majority of animated televison in this country is aimed or children. Most adults and teenagers wouldn't be caught dead watching Dora the Explorer or Kim Possible (by themselves, not with children).

your link is so right! Totally right, in fact! Here's another fact for you: Anime cannot exist with out PASSION! Passion is the most important element of anime and related things. True anime is full of it. You should be able to pick it up quickly if you pay attention. Ignorant people never see the passion within and therefore miss the whole plot. Anime is best described as Japanese animated soap-operas, except not all of them are the tear-jerkers we all think of when we hear "soap-opera". Agreed?

that's crazy! i mean, i knew japan didn't really care for anime much for the but the fact that they're just so-well-OPEN, with their bodies really blows my mind confused ! i mean, they're such a reserved group 'n all that, 'n they don't even hug in public much i just figured-well i guess affection is different than physicalness XD. then again tho, they DO just chill out in onsen with people who r practically strangerz too..
japan's complicated sweatdrop lol

Yes. Japan is complicated, but that is why it is so interesting. Manga and anime are considered in the same group. Therefore, I'm not sure why someone would consider anime as childish. Considering that the Japanese also tend toward the aspect of animated porn, which is, by definition, not for children. There are many different classifications and age ranges when it comes to both manga and anime, and they have been labled accordingly for violence, sexual situations, etc. It's not just Japan though. We have cartoons in America that are geared towards a more mature audience, like Aeon Flux and Heavy Metal. Just because it's animated does not necessarily mean it's for children.
