Nippon Ichi Software, Inc. was founded in 1994 in Gifu, Japan, as an entertainment software company. Since then Nippon Ichi Software, Inc. has grown into an international company focused on creating video game products across modern console platforms. NIS America, Inc. subsidiary of Nippon Ichi Software, Inc. of Japan, established its North American operations on December 24, 2003. Based in Santa Ana, California, NIS America, Inc. handles operations including localization, marketing, and publishing of Nippon Ichi titles.

NIS America was the result of the company's wish to focus on internal publication of their works in the US, given the increased popularity of their titles. Prior to the creation of this subsidiary, NIS software titles that appeared in the US were localized and distributed by outside publishers. Notable examples would be Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, published in North America by Atlus and in Europe by Koei, La Pucelle, published in North America by Mastiff Inc, and Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure which was also published in North America by Atlus.

Etna

Etna is the leader of a prinny squad, and one of the few vassals who remain in the Overlord's Castle after King Krichevskoy's death. In the beginning, she attempted to wake up Laharl...through unique methods (from drills to hammers to guns to rocket launchers). From then on, Etna became Laharl's closest, though not necessarily most trustworthy vassal, aiding him in his rise to power. She is the only vassal from Laharl's original servants who goes out on the battlefield for him.

Etna acts carefree, but is also very devious. Often times, it's hard to tell who she really is working for. She holds deep respect and loyalty towards King Krichevskoy, Laharl's father. Etna is often known for ending an episode with an odd "preview" to the next episode, which is often times a parody of TV shows, all of which involve her as the star.

Pleinair is a young, female, humanoid demon that is the brain child of Nippon Ichi character designer Takehito Harada. She has appeared on his personal website and in Disgaea: Hour of Darkness and Phantom Brave, video games he designed characters for, as a non-playable character.

Pleinair is a humanoid (a demon, to be precise) with light blue hair and red eyes. Her actual residence is undetermined, as she appears both in the Netherworld and also on Earth. Very slightly, she resembles the Overlord of the Netherworld, Laharl, due to similar hair and her blood eyes. She usually wears a small white dress with a red ribbon in her hair. Harada has created many different outfits for her, from dresses to country clothes to space suits. Most of them are very close in appearance, sometimes only varying in bows, ties, or shoes.

Sometimes Pleinair carries a plush white rabbit with stitches for a mouth. It is a plush toy though is clearly alive. Often she gnaws on her little bunny's ear or head, which is something that really hasn't been explained. This strange yet adorable girl also has a blue shark with a stitch mouth, red eyes, and band aids on its head. The shark also enjoys snacking on her bunnies, or so pictures show us.

According to Disgaea 2 and Harada himself, the rabbit and shark are simply named "Usagi-san" and "Same-san".

Quite often, her age has been mistaken, and fans claim her to be around 9-10 years old in human years. This is in fact not true, and has been proven so by Takehito Harada himself.


In Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, she appeared as the receptionist to the Dark Assembly.

In Phantom Brave, she appears by a group of people in the city in episode 3.

In Disgaea 2: Cursed Memories, she appeares throughout the game in the SatelliTV News Program.

Rozalin (ロザリンド, "Rozarindo"): The one and only daughter of Overlord Zenon. Rozalin was summoned during a failed attempt by Adell's mother to summon Zenon. Due to the summoning contract placed on her, she is unable to leave Adell and must help him find Zenon. Incredibly snobby, Rozalin is unaware of the world around her due to her pampered life. Because of this, she has no battle experience and tries (and fails) to get Adell killed indirectly on several occassions. In addition, Adell's strong vow to bring her back to her father begins to make her think differently.
