Has anyone tried an unusual drawing techniques?

I just started a pre-degree course in Art, only been doing it 2 days but already we've been taught some unusual drawing techniques to improve our skills.
One was drawing without looking at the paper at all, totally focused on the subject.
Another was drawing a self portrait with your eyes closed just using your hand to feel the features of your face.
Another was a geoglyph, where the picture is only one entire, never ending line, and you cannot take your pen off the paper.

Anyone tried any of these or any similar methods?

I've done the geopglyph thing before and have tried drawing without looking at the paper. The results have been... interesting. xd

I'm not sure if I've done any other techniques that could be considered "unusual."

i've done the geopglyph thing and the not looking at the paper thing...but i couldnt help looking at the paper, so the results were not only frustratingly bad but also invalid because i cheated, hehe. the geopglyph thing was pretty cool.

hmm...unusual techniques...i have tried to draw portraits with my fingers, i've used burnt matches to draw stuff (way fun, seriously, something about the fact that its a match makes it more fun than charcoal), done a soysauce painting (without a brush and without touching the paper). i think thats about as uninteresting that i get: unusual media.

in the flicker.

I love trying different techniques, and it doesn't matter if it doesn't look like what it's supposed to, we got taught to make it look how we want it to look, draw what you want to draw, not what you see 3nodding I'm loving this course xd

I've never tried this myself...I'm sure it'll look terrible. xd
But I know an amazing CG artist that always draw the sketch (at the comp using a tablet) with her eyes closed. eek

Unusual techniques, huh? I've done blind contour and the other not looking at the paper one... also fingerpainting with acrylics (great for blending backgrounds and such; it seems like fingers are similar to palette knives and you don't have to worry about brushmarks), dripping watercolor on paper, blowing on it, then drawing what it reminds you of... the geoglyph seems really cool though, I think I'll try that.
