Random question time!
I don't know about everyone else, but I am counting down the days to the Tonys! I have been listening to my DRS and Spamalot CDs almost NONSTOP. But it got me to start thinking.
What songs will get to see on the show?
So I open up the question, what songs do YOU think the Tony nominated Musicals and Revivals are going to preforming? Hehe, I like to do this and then see how close I get on the night of the awards!
(P.S. I'm a total LOSER when the Tony's Awards are on! That's why no one else can watch them with me anymore.)
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels- Hard to say, it's going to come down to who they want to promote more. I think "Great Big Stuff" is the best number in the show BUT John is not in it. That leads me to believe that they will do "Dirty Rotten Number." It's like the theme song of the show plus both John and Norbert are in it.
Spamalot- Oh GOD I hope they do "Knights of the Round Table!" The big flashy production number and CLASSIC Holy Grail song! Highlights all the actors nominated too. Only they would have to trim like 4 minutes off of the song. Not a problem though, I could already figure out where there would be cuts.
Spelling Bee- Don't know any of the songs so I really can't predict anything.
Light in the Piazza- I think they are going to do what "Caroline or Change" did last year and highlight Victoria Clark. I know there is a song she sings by herself and though I don't know that name of it I think that's what she will be doing.
Pacific Overtures- It's already closed so they will be showing a video of clips from the show like they did with "Big River" last year.
Sweet Charity- Okay, I only know the name of one song in this show, but I bet ya that they will be combining "Great Big Spender" with some song that Christina Applegate sings alone. Like, start off with the first verse of "...Spender" and cut to Christina on the other side of the stage and finish with just her.
La Cage Aux Folles- I don't care what they do as long as Robert Golet doesn't sing! I'd like to see them start off with the show opener, they can even have Golet introduce the "girls," and then half way through the "chorus girls" drop out and leave Gary Beach to finish it with the reprise of the song from the end of act one. Cus all they really need to feature is Zaza and the drag queens.

I fail to see why the folks in charge of La Cage Aux Folles would *not* want to capitalize on Rob Goulet. Besides, what do you have against him singing? I've heard him perform "Song on the Sand," and it was lovely ^_^
As for Spamalot (the only CD of a nominated show I've listened to as of yet), I think they might do "Find Your Grail," or even "You Won't Succeed on Broadway."

He's singing is fair enough, but that is about ALL he has going for him.
I had been WAITING to see the show and looking forward to it, and then when I saw it... I got stuck with him. The man could barly walk let alone dance, didn't know his lines, could deliver a punch like if his life depended on it, and the conductor was literally pointing out where he was to go on stage! I was REALLY looking forward to "La Cage" and he totally ruined the show for me. I really hated it and it was because of him. SO, I have a bit of a grudge against the man.

Wicked, when did you see La Cage? I saw it in April and he had some problems, but he was ok. He wasn't fantastic at all and I would've preferred to see anyone else, but I liked the simple soft shoe he did and he can sing.
Personally, I think they should do We are What We Are from La Cage and the only really big crowd pleaser from Sweet Charity is Hey Big Spender. Naturally, the idea is to utilize the entire company and show the best the show has to offer. And that's not Robert Goulet.
I don't know the other shows, so the Tony Awards is advertising to me.

I've been watching the Today show as of late and they've been highlighting shows that are opening on Broadway. Soo, I'm thinking based on the songs that they chose to advertise there, the Tonys may be similar. Sweet Charity-I'm a brass band (Or I think that's the title). Spelling Bee-I'm thinking it's going to be like "Boy From Oz" and that they're going to do the title song, w/excerpts that include audience participation so that they can grab some unsuspecting celebrities from the audience.
The others are up in the air for me, but I hope they do "Great Big Stuff" for DRS...
And I'm sorry, but every time I think of Robert Goulet, I'm reminded of Saturday Night Live and his "Broadway" show... xd

I saw La Cage on... umm... *checks ticket stub* April 16th matinee. Yeah, "We Are What We Are" is the one I was talking about. I figure they could have Robert Goulet do the intro for the number in character as Georges (like he does at the top of the show) then Les Cagelles would come out and start "We Are What We Are" and after the first chrous Zaza comes out and finishes with "I Am What I Am" and they can do the whole dramatic ripping the wig off thing at the end of it.

Stitch_Stalker Spelling Bee-I'm thinking it's going to be like "Boy From Oz" and that they're going to do the title song, w/excerpts that include audience participation so that they can grab some unsuspecting celebrities from the audience. Omg, I could just see them grabbing Nicole Kidman and being all like, "Spell Hypochondriac." BTW, I heard that Wicked was on the Today Show a few days ago. What did they preform? A friend of mine has the video of it, so if it is something good, I'll take the time to get it from her.

Sernin the only really big crowd pleaser from Sweet Charity is Hey Big Spender. Well, they *could* do "There's Gotta be Something Better," or "Rhythm of Life." In fact, I bet that's the one they do.

PensivePine Well, I'm just glad that Elphie got her wish for La Cage Aux Folles. Yeah, I only wish now that Gary would have gotten the chance to sing more. It was all dancing (which was great don't get me wrong) but Gary has a great voice which I would have loved to hear more of. P.S. Is it JUST me or does the sound suck?
