Personally, I've always been happy with the donation items. Every month, I get excited over the prospect of "What could it be??" and then poom! Suprise! Ohcool! It's such-and-such! So many people b***h and whine and moan about these items... if they aren't their taste then it's the end of the world. D:
But what makes us love an item? What makes us hate an item?
What makes the "weaker" items bad and the "more popular items" more popular? How do the mass's opinions compair to your own personal opinion?
I want more Kikis, that's all I know. D: <3

Let it be known across the land, that it is not the mods that command Sukebei, but it is instead rather Sukebei that commandeth the mods....
Anyways... I find that I typically can't make any avatar without at least the inclusion of one donation item... I probably could go without it but I tend to just add one in anyways since most donation items seem to have their own layer completely and thus I can add more complexity to an outfit...
Now if were're talking weak vs strong items... Obviously no one likes the Bear PJ's since they're ugly, can make you look fat, and cover all but the face of an avatar. However everyone loves the new butterfly wings, which I think is mainly just due becuase everyone wanted them. To me they look like the fairy wings on an acid speed trip..

Yeah... I like... never take off my devil's tail. surprised like... EVAR!
I don't mind the PJ's... they have their own merit... I wish they would chang ethe layering on them so you could wear shirts and pants over them like you used to be able to. sad Then they'd be better.
The newer donation items have been so rad, though... like these new ones... socool. biggrin

I wouldn't know, I'm too broke to buy them. And anyways I tend to not use the new donation items till about 5-6 days after they come out so I don't just end up looking like "another" donation item whore, no offense.
Besides that way I have more time to think up a good way to incorporate the new item in effectively... or I'm just making up excuses because I'm too poor still.

Lol after my art auctions, I tend to run out and buy a handful of that month's letters. X3 when I don't have time for art auction, I'll just sell old letters.... then I can affoard NEW letters XD I just want the items. lol.
Personally, I don't look at enough other avatars seriously to be all "Donation item whore!!" I more look at them and think, "Oooooh I like this, but this bit here seems forced D: " etc.
I dunno, I just like finding pretty avatars in general and not pay attention to whats popular.
Usually, I try to make an avatar I really like with the items and just wear it through the whole fad so people would be like "Ho! That person's copying bil!" and I'm all heh heh heh.
Forgive my incoherency- I just woke up ^^'

I think the bitching and whining over donation items has become a sort of Gaian tradition. Like decorating a tree at Christmas or giving out heart-covered cards and chocolates on Valentine's Day, Gaians celebrate monthly by nit-picking the new items down to the last pixel, crowing about how they could do better, complaining about how they donated the money, and then shamelessly wearing the items despite it all.
Sometimes popularity seems to relate to how versatile an item is. If it's something that can be worked into many outfits, then it's more popular. That's one area where the PJs suffer; they're more difficult to incorporate into outfits since they cover so much of the avatar.
And, of course, what's popular with the masses isn't necessarily what's popular with the ever-so-vocal minority. If it's very black and "goth," there'll probably be a ton of kids who rave and froth over it like a starving dingo over a steak, and the complainers will...well...rave and froth for entirely different reasons.
But everybody seems to like the shinies.
Personally, I don't like items that look too...modern. Like the headphones or the CD/mp3 players. I'm not entirely keen on the guitars, either, for that reason. Not that they aren't nicely made items; it's just not my taste, for whatever reason. I still get all the new donation items and work them into my oufits where I can. If I don't like them, I'll say as much, but I know it's all a matter of taste, so I tend not to spend any more energy on it than that.

I dont really like donation items because they are always too "freaky" I miss the days when super cool chain wallets, mp3 players and dj phones came out, now its stuff like "magic rod" "fire thing" like everyone liked nightmare/angelical/fire/ice/magical stuff.
I would preffer other kind of normal weapons like Rifles, guns, knifes, I hate magic-based stuff ;P.

And I'm a fantasy buff so I say 'More swordzors!' or some such.
I'm not fond of this month's items. They are less flashy which is cool, but they are damned hard to work with. The panda bag isn't my style, but that's fine. The turtle shell's alternate is just un usable. (Though I'll admit it's is amusing as all hell to see the non avatars all over the place.)
