Eve had long snice passed, left behind in a shroud of darkness. All night she had travelled, her shar[ blue gaze picking ot creatures and obstacles in the black. For now she rested in solitude, small hind foot twitching on the soft earth. A gentle breeze took to playing lovingly with her fur. It tried to stir the wolf with soft laughter, it was time. A muffled bark escaped the female's mouth, her hind kicking out at an intruding bit of foliage. Her ears spun for a time, until her body deemed it time to rise. Letting her relaxation escape her maw with the sound of wind, the wolf rose her head to face the dawn.

ait cast a soft orange glow over the darkened woods. Oak and aspen scoured the sky, even a pine dared to reach out to the heavens. Wolves were not of the sky, so she paid these towering plants no heed, but instead searched. Her nose looked for the scent of the brown she had last talked to. The sweet taste of pheasant blood still rested on her maw. Drawing a rought tongue over its surface, she took what little flavor was left.

It wouldn't be long now. Soon she, and the brown female she was leading, would meet the others. Jori had already been inside the matrix of rivers, but the others had not. She'd told the blue to wait, told her she'd know what to wait for when it came. The other female, her name seemed to escape Kara's lips, the one with the pup. Kara had told her the way. 'Through the tunnel of tree' she had said. 'Follow it even after it is gone.' It had sounded so mysterious, but it was true. The trees made a network of paths, and when the myserious cave of limbs ended, if you looked up, they still intertwined. 'But don't let it leas you astray' she had continued. 'Look for the scent, and for the sign. It is hard to miss, but you must look both up and down to see it' It was this place that marked the crossing. One of the few places over the river. Jori would be where she told the other wolf to go, she hoped, if everything went as told.

However, for now, she led Carey. It felt better to show the wolves, rather than tell. Besides that, she had grown a particular fondness for the b***h. Something about the adolescent intrigued her, and she was itching to know more about the brown's life. So she had taken the female along the path, pointing out what to watch for to get in and out of the pack lands with ease. alittle words had been spoken, but now there was little time left. "We're near there." Her voice was hardly audible against the chrip of birds in the morning dew. "Pay close heed, this last bit is an easy way to lose one's direction." She could only hope that the others had made it in before them. They would all meet for the first time. It was then, and only then, that the reprocutions of Kara's actions might come forth.

Jori paced the bank of the river, head up and ears pricked. Kara was coming back today.

Yeah, with other wolves. The blue's lip lifted for a moment as she grimaced. She understood the neccessity of others, but still. It was annoying. She'd been tense since Kara had left their territory, worried that something would go wrong, that another pack would come...

Of course, nothing had happened. Which had left Jori with overactive nerves and a growing anxiety. Pah.

Water lapped the banks and glittered beneath the scant light of the stars. The moon had long since set and dawn was not far off; already the horizon was growing lighter. Soon the first rays of sun would illuminate the high world. Jori noticed all of this, but didn't pay attention. Her focus was on the woods beyond the rivers.

Beneath the eves of the pines in the low world the shadows were thick. Early morning fog entwined the heavy boles and swirled across the river towards her. Things slithered in the loam and crept on the water's edge, shadowy figures she could never quite make out. But she could smell them; racoons, rabbits, mice, fozes...

A mumbling reached her then, a noise more stable than the river's erratic babble. Ears pricked, she waited.

'Neira had more of a spring in her step than before, something of a determination had filled her since her she had met Kara. The prospect of a pack, one with no males around, filled her with a spark of fire which would take some dousing. The way into this new area was not an easy path but 'Neira had picked up the scent of another. Faint, old, but a trail. She was using it as a guide between the landmarks she'd been given.

The pup was the only annoyance, really. She was still a little underfed, undergrown and although she'd been brought up on the move, could move no faster than her small legs would carry her. 'Neira was running out of patience. "KEEP UP" she barked as the pup tangled her legs on yet another twisted pile of roots. The small pup whimpered until 'Neira had once again cleared her legs of the roots grip.

They were really not doing a very good job of quietly moving through the forest. At least, 'Neira hoped, she'd be able to leave the pup behind soon. Somewhere safe and, more importantly, somewhere the little orange furball would be out of trouble.

As much as the pup bothered her, it was something of a mission for 'Neira now to see that her only surviving pup lived and grew to take care of herself. Maia would learn the truth about males, would learn not to associate with them and the pain they could bring. Maia would not be spoiled like 'Neira had been. 'Neira hadn't known all of these things, that's why she had ended up near death with her pup.

Finally the pair came to an opening in the forest cover from which she could hear the splashing burble of water. The sound she had been waiting for...
