Ashki laughed softly as the female said that she'd love him no matter what, and that she had been attracted to him since the very beginning. He hadn't known that she had had feelings for him for so long, and it slightly startled him. He wasn't that much of a jewel was he? He had figured that there were other males far better than him...
But, in truth, he was absolutely glad and grateful that Kit had chosen him out of all the other possibilities. She understood him and he felt like he didn't have to act like someone else around her just to get her to like him. He could just be himself and she didn't care. It was great, and he just adored the sort of relationship they had. If their friendship had gone down the drain, Ash didn't know what he would have done.
Purring, he nuzzled her affectionately, afterwards looking up towards the sky as she pointed. There, as plain as the two eyes on his face, were two hearts intertwined. Kit seemed to believe it was a sign of approval from the heavens, and he couldn't seem to disagree.
"I guess we're meant to be," he purred, smiling and nuzzling her again, his smooth tongue running over her ears again. He loved her so much..

A feeling of warmth spread through her body as he agreed, and at his tongue rasping lovingly over her ears. She pressed against him a little more - it was barely possible to get any closer to him at that point - and let out a soft purr, staying quiet for the moment. She had never dreamed that morning that she would wake up and later that day, they'd be mates. Mates? Is that what they were? The word sounded unfamiliar in her mind, but it was endearing nonetheless.
After a moment she murmured, "This is kind of like the start of a new life together... although it won't really be new, or different." She furrowed her brows, trying to put her thoughts into words. "I think it'll be the same... because we'll be just as close as ever, except now, we don't have to worry about making our feelings clear. Does that make sense?" She felt slightly foolish, not able to figure out the right way to say it. "I don't think anything has changed, really, except the fact that our love is out there." She smiled again, a slight blush tinging her cheeks under her fur. She wasn't embarassed, but so jovial that she flushed.
Kit twisted her head to look at him, her eyes bright and enthusiastic. "You know what? How about we just sleep up here?" Smiling, she added, "That way, we can stay under these stars... together."

Ashki was as awestruck and amazed as the lioness. Never in all of his dreams had he seen this coming. He had thought that he'd just have a secret love for her, and that it would never really blossom into anything. But now... it turned out that she loved him too and had been keeping it a secret just like he had been doing!
When Kit began talking about their life and how it would be the same but even better than before, he listened with both ears perked. Her voice was just so soft and had a certain melody to it that just made his spirit soar.
Smiling at her stammering, the male licked her ears again and purred. "It makes sense to me. I understand completely what you mean." And it was true. Like her, he had been thinking about how they would leave different lives now, but it would somehow be the same as well. It was a complicated thought, but he understood it.
Still purring, Ash nuzzled her and let his smile grow wider when she suggested they sleep out under the stars. "I think that's a great idea, love." He paused for a moment to lick her ears again then look into her eyes. "You go ahead and sleep first. I'll keep you warm and protect you."

When he called her 'love', she absolutely melted, purring louder than ever before. With a raw sincerity and love in her eyes, she pushed her nose into the fur on his cheek, closing her eyes. Murmuring an agreement, she sighed happily, her warm breath catching in his fur.
Within a few minutes, she had curled next to him, her body arching around his own and her muzzle still by his face. A blissful expression on her face, she was silent except for her steady breathing. For one of the first nights ever, she slept soundly - no bad dreams; no waking up. In the morning, she would know it was thanks to her friend - no, her mate, her love, her only.
