Wow.. I hope the majority of you aren't being serious.

This is what I came up with for myself.. Personally I don't think I'm so far off (*notes Pen Pen being God*) but of course everyone will have their own opinion. Oh and there are spoilers galore, so don't read if you don't want to have the entire series ruined for you. Keep in mind I'm doing a quick run through because I'm not about to write a thesis on Evangelion in my spare time...

In the original show there was a lot refering back to Adam and Lillith. Essentially, second impact happened when Gendo forced Adam into himself. Rei was created from Lillith's soul and Yui's body. All of the angels and even the Evas wanted to get to Adam so that they could become the dominant life form. Each of the Angels were essentially another life form that could chosen to be the true one.

Until Kaworu comes everyone thinks the thing that they are protecting is in that bottom chamber being hung up on the wall. That is actually the body of Lillith (this is important later). At which point Shinji catches Kaworu and kills him after an intense scene of the two speaking to each other then about a minute of music (Ode to Joy of course, but not the part everyone knows) with Shinji just trying to muster the strength to do it (or whatever he was doing...).

The series ends with the completion of instrumentality on Shinji which essentially shows him that he can be whatever he wants to be making it very inspiring.

Unfortunately, (to my dismay) a lot of people sent the creator hate-mail and stuff saying that the ending was terrible. (I loved the ending. Fixing someone as dysfunctional as Shinji is very inspiring)

So he creates End of Evangelion, a movie meant to give everyone what they wanted, with a hint of insanity to confuse the hell out of people.

Now I can't strees enough that I can't possibly describe all of the symbolism in it for there is enough to fill college level text-books on theology, philosophy, psychology among several other subjects.

In the end Gendo combines Adam and Lillith in hopes that he can be reunited with his wife Yui. Unfortunately for him, Rei cares too much for Shinji to let Gendo become God. So she runs off, shedding her oldself and returns to Lillith with Adam inside her. She then one by one kills everyone on the Earth by splattering them into the weird LCL or whatever they called it. This is supposed to represent everone becoming one being, one entity and returning to the primordial soup of life. Eventually the drone Evas created by the council to eliminate any chance of this happening are used to continue this process. Shinji basically becomes "God" once Rei gives him "The Choice." Prior to that point, Rei would technically have been "God." Now his choice is to either let everyone remain as one entity, or be split once again into seperate entitites. His choice is to let everyone be sperated again and he is left on the beach with a girl that looks like Asuka. Apparently that is Shinji's prefrence in girls, but what can we expect from a dysfunctional kid like him. However, it came to my attention that Asuka's eyes are different and she was bandaged how Rei was occasionally, so there is probably a little bit of all of them in there. Essentially he and she are left to restart the human race like it had started once before. At least that's what I have gathered from it.

Angels of Sin
thats a good post Tenshi, and thank you for agreeing with me. you do have a good point with what the Angels represent "Gods Wrath" that is good and i support that, but thay could also represent jelosy. how would you feel being the first and not the chosen to be humanity lol. EoE go's ferther in to these (the part with misato and shinji, trying to get to Unit-01)

Yes that could also be true just as in the movie Dogma, if any of you have seen it or not you know what I am talking about. But for those who do not, in Dogma, which as a comedy staring chris rock, ben affleck, and few others including jay and silent bob; in the movie ben affleck and his partner he is with are angels exiled from heaven and escaped from hell i think, well I dont want to get into extreme details so...they believe they can get back into heaven by passing through the archways of a specific church and all of their sins will be wiped away and they will be alowed into heaven, well when they get to the church they snap and start killing inicent humans constantly saying how God gave the humans paradise and they refused it, and so on and so on, and that God never paid attention to them and that the angels are supposed to respond every time to God's every whim, while the humans do not have to even believe if they choose not to. Since God paid no head to the Angels and spent all of his time favoriting the human race, the Angels became jealous and begain attacking the humans. Why kill God when you can't instead kill the ones he cherrishes the most.

I hope I did not lose anyone in all of that. Any questions about this just ask.

Thats absolutely awesome. I think I have to watch again to see it myself!

Shinji Ikari.

I suppose there could be a God somewhere in the series, but towards the end, Shinji was god pretty much. He decided the fate of humanity and, well you saw. That's pretty much where I consider a character coming close to a god-like reference.

Tenshi: you saw my point exactly Tenshi 3nodding

Nagaki: that makes sents, but Eva Unit-01 was needed (by Seele) to start 3rd impact, and the Eva needs a pilot to move, but i see you point

Hello friends! Heres more info...

Evangelion uses Judeo-Christian religious motifs fairly heavily, many people are often curious as to whether or not a God is present or apparent in Evangelion. Some people even have the inclination to believe that Pen Pen is in fact God. This is not so absurd an idea, as gods (not limited to a Judeo-Christian god) are known to assume various forms to observe the world. And from watching Pen Pen's distinctly and unusually inquisitive nature, you get a sense of intelect or personification from him. The primary support for this theory lies in the way in which he is treated. If you pay close enough attention, you can find one instance in which he is mistreated or neglected just prior to an Angel attack. I don't neccessarily believe this was intended, but I can appreciate the humor and logic behind it. Japanese animators and directors are quite eccentric in some ways. I highly doubt the validity of the theory, but it is an interesting idea to toy with.

Gendo Ikari is God, and Shinji is Jesus.
