History
Along the beaches of the Cein Isles, shells of all shapes and sizes can be found. But among them all, only a few of them are used for currency because of their value and various uses beyond that of ordinary shells.

The snail shell is used for medicinal purposes and when carefully sliced it produces beautiful patterns used for ornamentation among the high ranking 'taur. Crushed snail shell is said to also be useful for summoning magic and spirits.

The scallop is used for buttons, combs, and sometimes for making embroidery needles. Large fish bone also serves as a needle for fishnets and the sewing of clothing, but scallop needles are said to hold the power of the sea with them. Because of this believe, many villagers who live near the sea craft their clothing using this needle.

The conch shell is the most valuable of the three shells. It can be used as a summoning horn and is used for many ancient ceremonies and rituals. They are larger than the other two shells and serve no other known purpose than for traditions and spells. If there were or are any other uses for this shell, it was lost during the great Naga/Unitaur War.

The second most valuable non-shell item is the "sea serpent" tooth, strange things with one razor sharp side and one serrated side. These are often used as spear tips and are extremely durable. Their edges and points are said to never go dull.

The most valuable non-shell is the "sea serpent" scale, scales of unknown origin that appear from time to time glistening like crystalline flakes among the shores. These are hard, durable scales that are often used in some forms of armor and as status symbols among the fighting classes. When affixed to leather, they make for doubly protective and durable armor. When the edges are honed and sharpened, they become useful for weaponry or tools.

A "cache" of shells consists of any combination of these shells whose total is 1000 with the snail shell being of the lowest value of 1.
