Hodari'roho's plan had worked. The foolish lion had had his way with her and she had walked away, expecting little ones in a few months.
As the time had passed, her belly began to swell, slowing her down. In that period of time, she had stopped picking fights, knowing that she couldn't risk the health of her unborn. By the end of her pregnancy, she had grown restless and bored. The small lioness was dissatisfied with her lack of energy and her tremendous weight gain, always having kept fit and healthy.
The once-petite lioness laid in her den, her limbs stretched out. The moon shone above and stars littered the night sky, casting bits of light down on the land. Her chest rose and fell steadily as she breathed, fast asleep, until a sharp pain in her stomach woke her. Blinking, a bit disoriented, she pulled herself up into a sphinx-like position. Her lips parted and she yawned, baring sharp fangs.
Then another pain hit her.
An instinctive growl rose from her throat before she realized what was going on. When her impending labor came to her mind, her heart began to pound against her chest, rare hesitations flooding through her thoughts. How could she be a mother? She had never cared for anything in her life! How could she raise the cubs to be strong, active lions that she could be proud of?
As another pain ran through her stomach, all thoughts were forgotten and she let out a roar, slipping to her side into a more comfortable position. Her breathing became quick and labored, although she tried her best to take deep, steady breaths.
The lioness began to push, pained growls still escaping from her lips. Finally, after several moments of pain, a scruffy, pure-black cub slipped out. Instantly, she ignored all pains and sat up, licking the cub vigorously.
Camulos squirmed slightly, pitiful mews coming from his lips. As his mother pushed him to her belly, he cuddled into her warmth, shivering slightly from the cool of the night. As soon as he could, he began suckling hungrily, forgetting about the coldness for the time being.Roho looked over her new cub, a bit surprised at the feeling of him nursing. Still, she was proud - he was healthy and promised to be a strong lion someday. The lioness noted that he looked remarkably like his father. Assuming this was her only cub (after all, how could she take care of one, let alone any more?!), she leaned over and sniffed him, a vague smile crossing her lips. He was definitely hers, though it was hard to believe she was a mother.
As another contraction took place, though, she yelped. Another?! Two cubs... that was going to be difficult. Quickly, she laid back down on her side, gritting her teeth. Push, push... it was becoming tiring, but she knew she had to continue.
After a few more minutes, another cub slipped out, this one white with blue markings.

The increasingly weary Roho pulled herself back up, cleaning the new cub. Another son! Part of her frowned, wishing she had given birth to a daughter, but she was delighted nonetheless. Two healthy newborn cubs, all her own! She was pleased that this boy looked almost just like her.

The little blue and while cub mewled softly, his eyes blind to the world as a newborn. Unsure as of what to think, since he was only just now able to take his own breaths, he nosed around for something, instinctivly his mother, trying to find a warm place to curl up next to. He was cold, damnit! Stumbling and squirming, he found his mother's side, and bumped into his brother, curling up next to both of them to warm up. All he wanted was to get warm right now, food could wait!

Roho smiled slightly, watching her newborns. Two healthy sons! A raspy purr rose from her throat, her eyes glittering with a love that she had never shown anyone before. Though they had snuggled into her fur, seeking warmth, she couldn't help but bend over and run her tongue over them, smoothing their fur out carefully. Instant maternal instincts tugged at her and she watched in silence, basking in the love she felt for her sons.
Then another contraction hit.
"Another!?" she growled, caught by surprise. Three cubs? Life was going to be interesting! She leaned back and after a few moments, another boy slipped out, making his way into the world.

The small lioness sat up again, slower this time as the process of giving birth was making her fatigued. Using a forepaw, she pulled the dark cub towards her, cleaning him off quickly. Another boy! A grin crossed her lips as she noticed that this cub looked like the perfect cross between herself and their father. She smirked as she realized that she didn't even know the male's name.
"It doesn't matter," she murmured, pressing her youngest son to her stomach along with the other two. "I'll take the place of both mother and father. They'll never need anything else."

Memnoch came into the world rolling, already squirming when his mother shoved him next to his siblings. Wriggling impatiently, he nosed at the larger of the warm, furry bodies near him, his tiny nose twitching as he tried to figure out how to nurse. Gods, but he hungered.
Finally, he found what he was looking for, and latched onto his mother's teat, feeding with gusto, so intent on his goal that he had yet to explore the warm, occasionally moving bodies of his two previously-born siblings.

Roho watched as her youngest son nosed between his brothers, still smiling lightly. One boy that looked both like herself and their father, one who looked like her, and one who looked just like his father. It was interesting to see the three cubs together, representing all parts of their heritage. Something inside of her felt slightly empty, though. As strong as her love was for her new sons, she had been hoping for a daughter, her belief that females made better leaders still burning within her. Still, these three boys were of her blood, and they'd surely amount to greatness some day.
Roho finally laid down, her breathing becoming deep and steady. Her muscles were more tired than they had ever been, even after all the fights she had been in in her life. A soft breeze gusted through the plains outside the den and a vague smile twitched across her lips, until another birthing pain struck at her stomach. By that point, she groaned, wondering how much longer this was going to go on. She struggled to push and finally produced her first daughter.

With a moan she pulled herself up and sniffed at the cub, licking her clean. Her eyes widened as she found that this newest cub was, indeed, the daughter she so longed for. With a grin, she looked tenderly upon the black and white female, nudging her to her belly as well to nurse along with her three brothers.

(Permission given by Meep to just keep going >w<) Roho wasn't quite sure what to feel. Her immediate reaction was joy at the birth of her daughter, but as the happiness began to pass, it left a tired and worried mother. She had four cubs now, and as grand as that was... how was she ever going to manage? There were so many mouths to feed and minds to teach. She had been worried about taking care of one cub!
The lioness flopped onto her side, panting. She hadn't expected the birth to be a walk in the park, but she hadn't realized just how tiring it would be. Just as she allowed herself to close her eyes, there was a tiny contraction in the pit of her belly, and she assumed it was just her body adjusting after the birth. It wasn't until another daughter slid out easily that she realized she was a mother of five, not four.

As she felt the pressure relieve, she - once again - struggled to pull herself up and clean up the cub. Part of her was beginning to feel annoyed. All she wanted at that point was a good night's sleep. How many cubs were there, anyway?! The irritation subsided a bit when she realized that this cub, too, was a girl. A flicker of a smile crossed her lips.

In one second, the small cub's warm surroundings were suddenly snatched away and she was pushed into a cold place, mewling and crying to go back inside. Smells blocked up her nose; she made a strange sound and action at least twice before she could smell again (later, her mother would coolly demand for her to stop sneezing).
Her eyes refused to open, liking the darkness her lids provided entirely too much to be swayed in lifting.
Warmness touched on one side; she immediately scooted towards it, seeking the confinement of the womb she longed for, and until seconds ago, had been quite happy in.
Her small, wet nose touched upon one wriggling...thing. And then another. And another. And another. And all were so warm. Her mind pushed her body to squeeze between two of the warmest, biggest bodies until it was satisfied.
And then a new smell wafted forward. Something that smelled...good. Her delicate ears flicked away at loud suckling sounds on both sides as she slowly nosed upwards towards Roho's belly and waiting milk.
The black and purple-lightning streaked cub latched onto her mother's belly and would not let go. This...food was the first she had independently. But the freedom did not go to her head. When shoved away by a sibling, she let him by, not fighting back nor making a fuss. She simply waited until he left before she went back to suckle.
And then she ignored him, choosing instead to devote her attention to the warm milk pooling into her stomach.

Roho watched her cubs wearily, proud of them (and of herself, for creating them!). A heaviness tugged at her eyes and she yawned, wondering if the cubs would be alright if she went to sleep. The lioness rolled onto her side, taking in a deep breath. Her hind legs instinctively pressed against the cubs to give them extra warmth and she allowed her scarlet eyes to close, savouring the rest.
She had begun to doze off when there was another prod in her belly. At first she slept through it, but when it sharpened, she woke with a jolt. As quickly as it began, it was over, and she found herself with yet another cub.

In disbelief, she licked at the cub's fur repeatedly, wondering why it wouldn't come clean. Finally it dawned on her that the cub's fur was, in fact, red, and that it wasn't blood on her coat. Smiling sleepily, she nudged the final cub towards her belly, smiling at the fact that her third daughter had wanted to stay in the womb for just a little bit longer.
At that point, the small lioness was so tired that she didn't have the energy to worry about the fact that she had six cubs. She simply laid down and closed her eyes, relishing the warmth of her newborns against her stomach.

Needless to say, the red cub was just as unhappy about leaving the womb as her five older siblings were. As her mother vehemently tried to lick her clean, she mewed and attempted a growl that sounded more like the cry of a dying animal. The cub seemed perfectly healthy though, and was kicking and struggling against her mother's tongue, until she was finally moved towards her siblings.
Again, she showed exactly how unhappy she was about leaving the womb by attempting to crawl all over her siblings in an effort to get milk. She didn't want one of the free teets, she wanted someone else's, and continued to blindly paw at her siblings until she felt one shift, which allowed her to slip right into the middle of all of them. She started feeding soon afterwards, keeping all four of her paws sprawled out so that she could maintain a decent amount of personal space. Although her mother was too tired to notice, this cub would certainly be a pawful.
