I play oboe. I just got my music for this year today. I looked over it. Guess what I found? 2 high Ds, and 3 high Cs (the ones on the ledger lines above the staff). And I started oboe less than a year ago gonk Any advice on how to play this?
(ps: Sorry if this is in the wrong spot)
(pps: not sure if it's important to any solutions, but i use a Hard strength reed)
EDIT: I'm having trouble with getting the notes out. I can ask my band director tomorrow if i can take them down an octave sweatdrop I had completely forgotten to ask today sweatdrop

Do you need help with fingerings, getting the notes out, or what?
(I'm not exactly an oboe player, but it's better to be specific)

Um. Can you be more specific? Can't you take it down an octive? Or did your teacher say not to? I've been playing for two years, and our new music have those notes in it, and I've always taken them down. But if you want, I know how to finger them.

Well I'm an oboe player, and during my beginner year, it was really hard to play those notes too.You just have to practice really.Nothing much else to say.Ohh and don't pinch the reed with your mouth to the point where you're blocking the air. That's one of the common mistakes some double reed players do.But yeah, you can't be loose on those notes either since they're high. And if you're looking for fingerings, just look it up on google.

why not just buy a begginers book, they give the fingerings to all the notes in the last pages....

im an oboe player and have been playing for 2 years, so first off if you have only been playing oboe for a year you should not be on a hard reed that is going to make it so hard to play that high. You should probably be on a medium soft or maybe a medium. i use Duste reeds from a place called forests, they make a beautiful tone, but there kinda pricey, $20. second, make sure you push a lot of air through, but heres the trick. you have to make a steady airstream so it doesnt honk or squeak. Third, sit up straight having good posture is SO important. and last, but not least have and open throat and dont pinch the reed. an open throat feels like your yawning or you have an orange in your mouth. its weird, but you will get used to it. Also, breath through your diagrahm and make sure you have the right fingering. Good Luck!!! biggrin
