[I'm a superstar. heart ]

The three, two 'coms and one scientist, stared at the quickly seizure-inducing flashes that Dante gave off. Soon, however, all three had to shield their eyes. It was impossible to stare at the light.

As fast as the light had been to pace up, it vanished, revealing a wiggly... furry... ball?

"... What the hell is that thing?" Artemis stared, rubbing his eyes like his sister.

"It looks like a---"

The thing, which Koyuki decided later to dub as a Furry Eggnoid, cracked slightly, making abnormal crinkling sounds. Koyuki walked towards it and Artemis pulled her back.

The crack soon grew, and suddenly dissolved. From a solid to a gaseous state? Koyuki spent a few seconds pondering that before realizing who was before her eyes.

"... Dante?"

Dante, now a toddler, looked back at her mother? Guardian? The corners of her lips tugged upwards into a small grin.

"Ohhhhhhmyyyyygooooooshhhh!" The scientist whee'd like a child with a new toy, and picked up the girl, who stared back at her, suddenly slightly afraid of this possibly crazy lady.

The 'doting mother' merely hugged the girl and pattered out of the room, yelling, "CEREEEELOOKIEHEREEEEE!!" while looking for her best friend and housemate.

"I kinda feel bad for the girl, you know," Artemis stared at the ground where Dante had been, and then out the door.

"Nah. She'll be fine. She has a name too. Dante."

[Ooh. For me?]

"Mom," Dante peeked into the bedroom, peering at the figure on the bed. She had quietly slipped upstairs upon her discovery of something at the front door.

"Hmm, Dante?" Truth to be told, the young woman knew of Dante's arrival before she had called out. After all, for a toddler in high-heel boots that clicks along the wooden floor, being quiet wasn't an easy feat. Plus, Koyuki was usually a light sleeper.

"Mom," she repeated, hoping that the one who she called her mother wouldn't go off in a hyperactive mode in the early morning and walked in, holding something white against her chest, "Look."

Koyuki flipped over and rose up from the large king-sized bed. She didn't need one, since she slept alone. But a large bed always made her feel safe, despite the fact at that she didn't know what exactly she needed to feel safe from. Loneliness, perhaps? Or just from her own mind?

Dante held up the plushie. Aww. It was of a white mink. How fitting. The pink ribbon was a nice touch too. Koyuki entertained with the idea of it being the animal version of her 'daughter'.

"Where did you get that, darling?" She asked, and saw that Dante clutched a piece of paper in one dainty hand. Immediately, she gestured for her to come closer.

The little girl obliged, holding out the note and clutching at the plushie. She liked it, and hoped that her mother wouldn't take it away.

"Hm, Kakui... whoever that is, sent you the plushie," Koyuki mumbled to herself and Dante after scanning the note, "Too bad... I don't know how to reach this person. I could've thanked her."

"I thanked," Dante clung closer, and realized that it didn't make sense, sort of, "Thanked in head and heart. Thanked person for giving plushie to Dante."

Of course.

"Yes, darling, and I'm sure Kakui appreciates it, whereever she is," the toddler's mother smiled and patted the bed, "Want to sleep a little while longer, with mom?"

Dante wasn't tired, and she always got up early. She didn't sleep much at night either. More often than not she slept through the noon hours instead. However, she climbed into the bed with all its fluffy pillows and blankets with her new toy.

Koyuki fell asleep, she didn't. She just thought about what she got, and silently thanked Kakui again. Then thanked the heavens that her mother wasn't being crazy for once today.

For now, of course.

[Dante's Thoughts]

Weird. Mom weird. She wear white 'labcoats' and I think they are boring. Just white coats. I think furry coats much better. More... 'stylish', mom says that is the word I want. But when mom not in labcoats, she wear 'stylish' clothing. I like them, but no fur.

Mom says she does not like fur on her clothes. I do. I have fake fur though, because mom will not buy real fur. I'm okay with that. Mom says they kill animals to get real fur. Who is they? 'They' is bad. Killing animals bad, I think.

Also, mom really weird. 'Hyper' is what Artemis calls mom. It is not her name, but is her 'personality'. I don't know what a 'personality' is, but Artemis says it is who mom is. But mom is a scientist. People are weird. I hide from mom sometimes, because she is really happy and jumpy, and hugs me too much. Hmph.

I think Suki is much smaller now too. Suki used to look bigger. Maybe... I kind of remember dirt. Water. Sun. Like a leaf. It is foggy, but I can kind of remember. Selene is nice, but sometimes it gets boring talking to her. I think Artemis is the best to talk to, he always gets loud, but not like mom. But Artemis doesn't like me too much, I think.

Oh, and I have a 'brother'! Yuki-mommy says he is not my real brother, but since his mom is Cerena and we live together, we are 'siblings'. So we are family! He is so very pretty and colorful, but a little too colorful. I like my blues, greys, and whites. And my pink bit of hair. Circe has many, many colors of green and blue. His clothing is funny too! Very 'stylish'. He says he is a 'king' and Madeline is the 'queen'. I am a 'duchess'. I don't know what these are, but mom promised to tell me about them sometime. She's always tired now or working. I can see it in her eyes. She's lonely and tired.

Or maybe it's just that big ball under her coat on her tummy. She says it kicks. Funny. And mom says it's a baby. Why would a baby be there?

Too much thinking for Dante. I think I will go look around for more hiding places. I like this house. Many hiding places.

[What Children Should Do.]

"You're too quiet."

Artemis felt that he needed to... remedy Dante's attitude. She was much too shy around strangers. Not loud enough. Not TODDLER enough. The teen knew that the toddler had a vain and self-important streak in her, and felt that it was his job to bring it out. Hoho.

"Dante quiet?" The victim looked up from her book, about some bunny and the forest. She looked at her 'big brother' in confusion. What did Arty mean?

"You need to be louder. Yell. Run around and have fun!" He replied, smiling benignly and obviously feeling otherwise.

The little girl stared, screwing up her face in a stare at Artemis that he recognized all too well. Koyuki was already influencing the child! They even GLARE at him in the same way! He swore to every god in existence that he'd need to remedy that. Quick.

"... But Dante... people scary," She mumbled, which was true, since her first experience with a group of people was at the Eden HQ, at a time where a lot of the guardians were there. Everyone was staring at her.

Artemis leaned against the doorframe and crossed his arms, "Well, children are supposed to be loud. And happy. And you must think you are the best and no other! It'llreallypissmomoff," He ended quickly.

"... Pish... mom... ouf?" Dante hadn't grasped the matter of speech that well yet, and could only catch words that were spoken at a moderate speed. Not that she understood what the boy wanted. She's not ready to be loud and happy like the people on TeeVee!

"That's the general idea, my girl," Artemis smirked, thinking that he had gotten through Dante's skull. Muahaha. It'll show that woman.

The toddler went back to her book, "Okay. Whatever Arty says."

---

Three books later, Artemis had already head out to do something else, and Koyuki came in, "Dante, dear, what are you reading now?"

"How To Be Nout-oreo-ius For Dummies," She replied, pointing at the cover, [How to Be Notorious for Dummies] "Big brother gave it to Dante to read. Told me to show off my inner self!"

...

"That brat. When he gets home..."

What is with her family? The mink Eden rolled her eyes and went back to the book, which was currently teaching her the wonder of demanding classy things and flaunting off what she had.

... Hmmmm.

[Bad Hair Day.]

"... don't wanna."

Koyuki sighed at her child. For the past hour or so, she had been trying in vain to get Dante out of her room. The girl-Eden seemed to have gotten the idea that she was too ugly to go out into the public. Since she was too young to be getting pimples, the scientist deduced that it was a case of chipped nails or bad hair day.

"Come out, Dante. Let mommy see what's wrong," she cringed. 'Mommy'. Ewww. It just didn't sound right.

"No!"

"I'm coming in, then."

Rustling sounds came from the room, and the tap-tap of heels clicked across the floor followed. Then more rustling sounds and nothing, "No!"

The pregnant mother-to-be sighed and turned the knob to go in. Dante's room didn't have a lock so there was no problem there. And there was no Dante in sight.

"... Dante?" Ah, there. Beneath her bed. She had tried to use the plush blankets to cover up the fact that she was hiding there, but unfortunately, the tip of a boot stuck out. Koyuki immediately went over and dragged the girl out.

Okay, so it was a bad hair day. In fact... Koyuki moved a hand up to cover her twitching mouth and murmured, "Why are you hiding?"

"Dante's hair is a 'MESS' and Dante doesn't want anyone to see the mess!!" came the wail, pitched much higher and louder than her usual voice. The tone that she reserved when she needed to fuss over her appearance to her mother.

"It's not. Everyone has bad hair days, we just have to fix it," Koyuki soothed her irate daughter and ran a hand through Dante's curls. Well, the curls were sort off sticking out in random directions and Dante looked like she had a small bird nest on her head.

Well, okay, that just triggered images of Dante with baby birds nesting in her hair.

And that led to afros. Dante with an afro. Snicker.

Dante glared and crossed her arms, "Mom thinks it's funny. It's not."

"Nono, my dear..." Snicker.

Koyuki gave up and led her daughter to the bathroom, "I'll fix your hair for now... tomorrow it should be fine!" She turned the faucet on and dampened the mink Eden's locks with the water and ran the comb through Dante's hair.

The curls sprung together back in their usual position. Not as neat and unified as usual, but much better than before.

"Your hair grew, Dante..." Koyuki smiled down at her daughter as she brushed.

"What are you doing, mom?" she pointed at the hair that Koyuki separated and divided and were now tying ribbons to.

Chuckling, her mom replied, "Just decorating your hair. There!" She handed Dante a small mirror, and the Eden looked.

Two dark pink ribbons secured the hair from falling in front of her ears, and she admitted that they were a nice touch. Also, she noticed that her curls were no longer at chin-level, but just below the shoulder.

"Why is my hair straight, and then curly at the tips?" she asked, running a finger over the ribbons.

Koyuki didn't know. So she grinned and told Dante, "Maybe you're imitating mommy when she puts on the disguise to go to work. With the purple hair, right?"

Dante nodded, "I like it this way."

And the word 'mommy' didn't seem all that bad to Koyuki anymore.
