The infamous Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin died today around 10am after a diving accident.

Steve Irwin was filming his latest documentary underwater when he swam too close to a Stingray. This encounter led to the Ray's poisonous barb piercing his heart causing an immediate cardiac arrest. He died on the spot.

Steve leaves behind his wife Terri, his 6 year old daughter and 2 year old son.

Now I will admit, Steves techniques were unauthadox and he did take some risks, but to go out to a Stingray...

That was not the way he should have gone.

I will say one thing, he died doing a job he loved. He will be missed.

Rest in Peace Steve Irwin - The Crocodile Hunter.

At least he died doing what he loved, that's a small pro of a huge con.

He was a fricken legend and will never be replaced.

Indeed. I must confess to not having much time for his shows or his style; but whatever you think about his methods, he was a naturalist who did an awful, awful lot to highlight Australian wildlife and its associated causes worldwide.

He'll be missed.

It took me a while to actually believe it when I read it on Sunday night (which I guess is technically Monday over in the land down under? :/ )....I mean, while the guy did some incredibly dangerous things in his career, I don't think anyone would think something like a stingray would do him in...

And, I actually felt sad about the whole thing. I've always been into animals and all, and enjoyed catching his shows on TV whenever I got the chance...heck, I even enjoyed the movie, despite it being just a bunch of clips with a corny plot tacked on.

I'll definitely miss the guy, and noone could ever replace Mr. Irwin's unique enthusiasm about a job that, while not many would take on even the biggest, helped to shed more light on those animals deemed as killers and nothing more.

Rest in Peace, Croc Hunter. May your legacy live on!
