When BUCK-TICK first started in 1983, it was known by the name of Hinan Go-Go. Most of the members weren't even out of High School.
The first five members were:
Vocals:: Araki (Never released real name)
Guitars:: Hisashi Imai and Hidehiko Hoshino
Bass:: Yutaka Higuchi
Drums:: Atsushi Sakurai
After they composed their first songs, Imai renamed the band BUCK-TICK. The name is derived from the Japanese phrase "baku chiku" meaning firecracker but translated into English the spelling changed and so it stayed.
As time wore on, the other four members of the band were not pleased with the direction Araki was taking them. Araki left and Atsushi took over vocals. Being short a drummer, Yutaka called in his older brother whose band had just broke up. Toll accepted and the lineup has been the same ever since.
Vocals:: Atsushi Sakurai
Guitar:: Hisashi Imai
Guitar:: Hidehiko Hoshino
Bass:: Yutaka Higuchi
Drums:: Yagami Toll
