A/N: Keep in mind that I wrote this story a long time ago. The characters are original and all mine, so please as if you really MUST use them for some reason. Please enjoy, i've been writing this story since last year, and i've been begged to continue it. It's currently in one of my notebooks, hand written, so don't hound me to type them out. I'm going at my own pace. So with that said, please enjoy!

XXXXX

Tessa, or Tess as she was often called, sat on one of the wooden park benches in Central Park, her fingers flying over the keyboard of her new laptop, made of a remarkably strong aluminum. At the age of only 16, she had overcome many hardships including physical abuse from her father, losing one of her best friends at the age of 10, and a horrific mass murder which claimed the lives of what remained of her family no longer than two years and ten days ago. The mysterious killer was still unknown. She had been completely on her own now since the age of 14, with nowhere to turn and no one to turn to. On her 15th birthday however....Everything changed. Her love of computers had followed her throughout childhood and into her teenage years until she became one of the most promising young hackers this world had ever seen. About a year ago, she challenged herself and hacked her way into the CIA mainframe. Unbeknownst to her though as she poked and proded through the pools of information, was that the agency she had hacked into was actually disconnected from the government...A nameless agency to be exact. Emerced in illegal activities beyond imagine, this 'nameless agency' locked onto her internet signal. When the words 'LOCKED ON' froze on her computer screen, her eyes were open to a familiar fear she though she would never know again....A fear that had plagued her since that fateful day her father had first hit her.....The fear of death. The agency's major priority was protecting its hideous secrets from the world. And so began the new life of Tessa Lake. She had no choice but to run or be killed. Now...Almost a year later, this blond haired, blue eyed young girl thought that she was all alone in the world. That there was no way anyone could possible know how it felt to be hunted by a government they knew nothing about....But she was wrong.

XXXXX

Seventeen could be a rough age, some cases more than others. Vincent O'Connor was one of those few. He was your typical, 'Never take home to daddy' type of guy. A rough attitude combined with a tough guy look could either turn a girl's head, or send a shiver of icy dread up her spine. Short, spiky black hair adorned his features, his bangs hanging slightly over his eyes. A shade of deep, determined emerald piercing the icy smog of the night. His most distinguishing feature was a thin scar that ran from his left ear to his jaw line. The cause of this scar however, was unknown to all but him. Laying in the bed of his new Chevy Cobalt, which was the first thing he'd ever purchased and not stolen, he skimmed the screen of his new model silver laptop. To say the least, his life had not been easy. A drunken mother and an affair seeking father were the only people he had ever had to call family, although there was nothing family like about it. Dropping out of school at the tender age of thirteen and running away from home, Vincent had also started a life of petty crime, which in turn had gotten him tangled into this nameless agency mess which he had recently liked to call... H.A.C.K., for reasons currently unknown. A year ago tomorrow he had decided to hack into the CIA database and mess up a few files as a joke. He hadn't planned though on instead being confronted with the big block words "LOCKED ON." Although he hid behind his appearance and behaviors, a snake of fear uncoiled in his stomach. Death.....It had once seemed so sweet to him...So much sweeter than life. Funny how the need to survive soon overtakes the need to just leave this world. The only thing he thirsted for now was life. Cocky to a point, he let this new found instinct fill his head, and somehow he eventually began to think that he was special. He had stared the death itself right in the face on several occasions and survived....And in his own weird way....This brought comfort.

A/N: Sorry it's taken me so long to update. ^^" I've been busy, and unfortunately, the chapters I already had written out were on a different computer and last night that computer was wiped out... So we lost everything. Fun fun... So anyway I hope you enjoy another chapter of H.A.C.K.!

XXXXX

No sooner had Tessa hacked into the agency's file on herself, then the all to familiar big red words appeared on the screen. She cursed, slamming her laptop shut and putting it in her pack. The distant sound of helicopter blades shattered the still of the night and her heart began to race. Slinging the bag over her shoulder, she broke into a sprint across the park. She knew it was them, and they were coming for her. "Move damn it move!" She ordered herself. Before she could reach the forest on the other side of the park though, the helicopters came into view, two gunmen and one pilot in each. She ran faster, then ducked low when the explosion of gun fire split bark off of the trees, falling in a rain of debris above her head. The hail of gunfire ceased momentarily but not for long. She bolted to her feet, extracting twin Remington pistols from their ankle holster, concealed by her jeans. The men in the chopper were reloading their gun chambers. She released the magazine from its place to find it was fully loaded. She snapped it back into place. Aiming at lightening speed and firing off three rounds, she hit the helicopter blade with all three, sending the chopper into a downward spiral. On her feet again, she raced across the park, wondering what her next course of action should be.

Vincent sighed, exploring the unknown corners of the agency. He was determined to learn more about this new found enemy. He had almost gotten into his own file when another one caught his eye. The picture was the one thing that compelled his attention. A blond girl, a year younger than himself with sapphire blue eyes. He had never seen anything like it... Her eyes were just so damn blue... He skimmed her information.

Name: Tessa Lake
Age: 16
Sex: Female
Position: Central Park
Threat: High

He read it twice before his gaze drifted back to her position. Could they really be hinting her? Knowing her exact position at every moment? He wasn't sure.. But then again, the agency was capable of anything. He closed the laptop, leaving it in the front seat of his truck. Central Park was near and his curiosity had gotten the best of him...

XXXXX

A disturbing feeling crept under his skin. He didn't know what it was until the first glimpse of the helicopter came into view. His reflexes caused him to drop flat on his stomach at the sound of gunfire. When he looked up though, he realized that the rounds were not aimed at him. Seeing a slim figure crouched in the distance, he once again got to his feet. The sound of gunfire had stopped, but he knew his moment of safety wouldn't last long. He looked up, his eyes widening as one of the helicopters came spiraling out of the sky. Scrambling to his left, he just barely got out of the landing site before the chopper collided with the ground. He panted, leaning against a tree at the edge of the forest. That's when he saw her, even more breathtaking in person than she was in her file picture. The second chopper had come into view, carrying yet again two gun men and one pilot. He saw Tessa sprint into the woods. Instincts told him to follow her... He wasn't one to defy his instincts. She could be with the agency and going for back up.. Even if they DID have her on file. He ran after her.

XXXXX

Tessa ran faster than she had in all her sixteen years. She pushed branches out of her way as she went, ducking low when she reached one she couldn't push. She heard twigs snapping under foot behind her, the rustle of leaves as branches were pushed and pulled away from her unknown pursuer. She suddenly felt a sting of hot pain hit her left cheek and she spun around on her heel. The muzzle of her gun settled on its target and her eyes filled with confusion. She had expected to see one of the agency goons, but instead she saw a rather good looking guy, a reflection of her own confusion in his eyes. Emerald.... Though it could be seen as a threatening color, she saw no source of evil in his eyes... Though he looked ragged from the run, his dark hair and features made him... Attractive.. She felt a trickle of some liquid run down her cheek, but she left it be... She couldn't get distracted for even a moment. If she got distracted, he had the chance to impair her senses and drag her down..

XXXXX

Vincent had no choice, she wouldn't slow her pace and he needed to know her connection with the agency. He grabbed a throwing knife from its pouch, something he had stolen a while back. Throwing it skillfully, he just barely grazed her left cheek. He had been about to appologize for being violent, when she turned, her anger not diminishing her beauty.. He suddenly realized he was staring cross-eyed into the barrel of a handgun, and from the looks of it, it could pack a pretty hard punch. "Umm...I think you've got the wrong idea." He said in what he thought was a warm and comforting tone. She reacted however by staring at him for several minutes, then pressing the gun to his forehead. The cold metal felt like the kiss of death, and he shuddered. Again he had no choice. He pulled out one of his throwing knives behind his back and pressed the blade to her delicate throat. "Who are you?" His voice was calm, and he loved the sound of hers, even if it held an icy note. "A survivor." She answered simple, keeping her cool, refusing to give herself away. A smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. "Do you work for the agency?" He was trying to act casual. "Do you?" She questioned, merely toying with him. His smiled vanished and he glared. "Look, I don't have all day, so either you give me some real answers or you pay the consequences.." He was referring to the daggar. His tone matched hers now. She grinned, almost an amused expression. "You do that and I still have several seconds to pull this damn trigger before going into shock." His confusion grew, how could she be so calm? "Then I guess we save teh agency the trouble of killing us both themselves." He hoped she wouldn't notice his trembling. "..Guess so..." Silence fell over the two, both pondering their situation.

XXXXX

The sound of a gun shot made him squeeze his emerald eyes shut. For a long moment he wouldn't open his eyes, for fear that he would find either his shirt soaked in blood or the devil grinning down at him. 'Wait.... Shouldn't I feel pain?' He wondered. He finally built up the courage to open his eyes and the first thing he saw was Tessa. Her gun was no longer pointed at him. She had returned it to the holster on her left ankle. He followed her gaze and turned around, seeing a big man in his early thirties flat on his back. Vincent recognized him as one of the agency men. He looked back at Tessa, who was already walking away. He had been about to thank her when she cut him off. "Don't thank me." She said with a goodbye salute. He could sense that the agency men were near, and he had a gut wrenching feeling that if he let her walk away she would be killed. She wouldn't come willingly, that much he was certain. His body reacted without warning. Still gripping his knife, he turned it over in his hands so that the blade was in his palm. He crept behind her, landing a hard blow to her back, hitting a pressure point and causing her to collapse to the ground unconscious. 'What am I doing?!!!' He screamed in his head. He couldn't just leave her hear... He didn't have the heart or the desire to do it. Scooping her up into his arms, he sighed, walking back in the direction of his truck.

XXXXX

Tessa awoke with a pounding headache, the light rocking of the truck lulling her back to sleep. The next time she opened her eyes, she was greeted by the warm afternoon sunshine. "Where am I?" Her voice was groggy, and her head was spinning. "In the desert... Just outside of Arizona.." A warm and kind voice replied. This voice seemed vaguely familiar, but she was to tired to care. Sleep took her once again. The next time she woke, the truck was filled with a soft darkness as night settled over the desert. Her head was leaned slightly on the window, welcoming her with a cool sensation. She felt a small, warm pressure on her and she looked down, seeing a denim jacket draped over her like a blanket. That warm, familiar voice greeted her again. "Glad to see you're awake. Sorry about the blow, how's your head?" Looking at him from the side was enough to recognize him, and anger boiled inside of her. She didn't have the strength to smack him, so she decided to save that for later. "I'd feel a lot better if I wasn't driving God knows where with a complete stranger who recently knocked me unconscious with the handle of a knife." She said in a voice that was both awake and angry. He smiled as if she were an old friend and this were all a joke. "We're headed for Colorado, my name's Vincent, and I only hit you so you wouldn't get yourself killed." He explained, trying to get her to see his point. She rolled her eyes and looked out the window. When she spoke again her voice was distant. "Who are you?" He was silent for a moment. "Vincent O'conner." He said sadly, staring out at the moon washed road. "Yeah..." She continued. "But who are you?" He glanced at her, at first not sure what she meant. "I'm a hacker.." He started. "Got caught up in this agency mess about six months ago." She turned her gaze from the window, studying his features and facial expressions as he spoke. She noticed the scar on his cheek but didn't mention it. "My mom was a drunk and dad was with a different girl every night." He sighed before continuing. "Using a computer, hacking, and my truck is all i've ever had." Tessa had long ago built a barrier around her emotions, for fear that if she opened up all hell would break loose... Again. She was completely confused at how relaxed this current environment seemed.. Why was he telling her this? "I'm a nice guy." He said with a smile which she didn't return. "How do I know you're not a rapist?" She asked almost seriously. "I'm not!" He stressed defensively. She let a smile play over her lips. "That's exactly what a rapist would say." He glanced at her, making sure their gazes met for a brief second before he looked back at the road. "I'm not." He said in an even softer voice than before. A calming silence fell over the two, neither of them speaking for a while. "And who are you, Tessa Lake?" He finally broke the silence. She didn't seem to be surprised that he knew her name. "I was 8..." She said quietly. He looked at her, completely confused. 'That was the first time... He..." She stopped herself before she could confess. "Forget it..." Her tone was cold. "Wait...What?" He sounded even more confused than before. She realized that she'd said to much already. "None of your business, stay out of my life." He was taken aback by her reaction, stunned into silence. "I didn't mean to bring up a sore subject.." He appologized when he found his voice again. She didn't say anything, and eventually she pretended to fall asleep so that it wouldn't be brought up again.
