Nyasi was currently sitting on a half-submerged log, some way away from the island where she had first been introduced to the rest of the pride. She wouldn't call herself a loner, no, she was simply independant. She yearned to communicate with the spirits and learn how to hear them - Nyasi had often tried to talk to them when she was a cub. And being alone with the quiet it was so much easier to listen. That was why she liked to wander in the swamps with only herself and the creations from their Mama Bwawa. Besides, you could never be truely alone when there were vijini around.
But despite her frequent wanderings by herself, she had found that one by one her sisters and brothers had been disappearing. Not that she spoke to them often, but she noticed their absence. Something was happening, something that would happen to her too. A change.... She smiled to herself. Change was good, exciting and new.

Despite her soft grace, today Asali's paws felt heavy, as heavy as her heart. After this, it would be over, but that was small comfort to the Queen, whose children were all leaving. Her wild Nyasi was last, and then they'd all be gone, and she'd be left waiting for them to return. To come back to her, to come back home.
Her daughter wasn't hard to find, and the lioness approached slowly from behind. "Nyasi."

The young lioness opened her eyes from her deep musings and looked over shoulder. Her mother had come to see her. With a slight stretch she rose and wander to her, a small smile on her face. Whatever was happening she welcomed it.
"Mother." She returned the greeting expectantly.

It was a small comfort to see that little smile on her daughter's face. No doubt, only acceptance. "It is time, child. Time for you to leave here and learn; your body grows, but so too must your mind, or else you will never truly be grown, no matter how lithe you become."
"I gave you a name, once. I called you Nyasi; Nyasi is a child's name, and as long as you bear it, you will be a child in the eyes of the spirits, in the eyes of the Mother, and in my eyes as well." It was almost over...soon, she'd be free from this duty, at least for a time.
"You must find a new name, your true name, and be child no more."

Nyasi listened intently, ears perked forward. It was time for change alright. Time to grow up, like all those of the Jini-msemi Pride - they had all done this journey to.. what did her mother say? Oh yes, to find her real name, her adult name. It didn't occur to her that perhaps some didn't return.
"I will." She stated with a nod but then stepped forward, closer to her mother. "Can I ask, what was your child name? And how did you know Asali was your true name?"

"My child name I left behind me in the mountains, and there it stays. There," now Asali'jua lifted a paw, tapping the side of her head, "And here."
"I knew," she answered vaguely, "As you will know. There are no more words for it."
"Now farewell, child." Dipping her pale head, the lioness turned and walked away with a slow, even stride, ever carrying herself like the queen she was.
