Does anyone have any suggestions on what music we should try to get for next year?

We already have two picked out:

For Good, from Wicked
Seasons of Love, from Rent.

And possibly Merry Merry Christmas Baby, 'cause everyone seems to love that song. Anyone have comments or suggestions for new songs?

Musical theatre music?

Uh... I admittedly don't know much about it. You've already got my favorite chorus piece on there (the Rent one). ._.

I know that the A Cap choir at my highschool did Bohemian Rhapsody the year before I got in. Aparently that was cool. biggrin

Ooh. I always wanted to do Bohemian Rhapsody. I'll have to ask about that - thanks!

Hmm, musicals are my speciality! Wicked is one of my favorites so Im thrilled its on your list. Is this for school? Because I would suggest The Point of No Return from Phantom of the Opera, but its not exactly school appropriate.

It is for school - and it doesn't have to be musicals. It just that more times than not, songs from musicals sound much better.

SEASONS OF LOVE! *faints* My school's Mixed Chorus is doing that, but I'm not in Mixed Chorus, so I'm so jealous! Well, our Chorale is doing an AWESOME Phantom of the Opera medley for our June concert, you should check it out. I heard the bass part goes pretty high, though.

And yes, the Jazz Choir at my school did Bohemian Rhapsody and it was lovely. We also did this Christmas song, Variations on Jingle Bells, which has a killer solo in it ( xd -- *killed*), and is really fun.

The thing about Bohemian Rhapsody is it only sounds good with some Choirs. We did it and it sounded alright. Another Choir from our county sang it...it was terrible. >.<

Good for some, bad for many.

Yeah, and the thing about the choir that DID perform it here was that they're pretty much good at EVERYTHING. The worst they could do was "average".

I think we'll be able to pull it off. My choir won first place at our competition with a Superior rating. biggrin

mmmm you could try Sleep by Eric Whitaker (last name sp?).... or if you want something REALLY REALLY hard, but REALLY REALLY cool... try the Messe Notre Dame... it has a sort of Middle Eastern inflection on Renissance church choral stuff... it was written for an all male thing, but of course they still had castratti and boy choirs and stuff so the 4 sections Sop, Alto, Ten, and Bass can sing it in their own range and octave.... Then there's Queen Mary's Funeral music... really awesome stuff and its easier than the Messe Notre Dame.....Then I think Messe de Carribeana (sp?) was a pretty interesting mass.... meh, too bad our new version of Walking Songs (by Ben Allaway) isn't out yet... at least I don't think it is.... a while ago our director had comissioned a piece with Ben, and this past year they lengthened it together and we recorded it and I think he sent a copy off to Westminster Choir peoples eek .....well I suppose it would be hard to do if you didn't have all the people needed to play the cool instruments that we had to... come to think of it, you would have to have a plethora of instruments to even think of doing that song... yeah like a waterharp (it's really cool sounds like whale calls)...for those of you who don't know what a waterharp is, it's the noise that happenes when they "go into the Matrix".... the kinda squeaky thing.....well sorry for all the misspellings, it's summer so I don't have all the music from last year in front of me....

I don't think it was a Middle Eastern peice, iMesse De Notre Dame, it's just the oldest full mass that they have been able to recover, so it's actual midevil music, not renaissance, so it was during the time when people had finally figured out that they could experiment with the voice, just a little after Gregorian Chants. That's why it's all... fun, and hard. Very very hard. I still think I wasn't quite getting some of those rhythms exactly correct. xp
And what, you don't think most music teachers have a collection of native american flutes, a Dulrooba, three digeridoos, water harps, thos funny water-drum things that Jeff played, and all that other fun stuff just sitting around the music room? hmm, another of Steighner's insanities, I guess.

I said Middle Eastern ---->inflection<----..... it sounds closer to a Turkish benediction than anything

Ah, I need to stop answering things late at night/early in the morning. I can't think... I should go to sleep.

We are going to do "Piano Man" for our Show Choir!
And for Christmas, we really want to do Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree.

Our teacher lets us help her pick the music for show choir. Since there are only 16 of us, (IM SO GLAD I GOT IN, YESSSSSSSSS!!!)
