Yeah, I am, sorta. I haven't written any as of yet, but I have a few ideas floating around that may prove to be good entertainment.

Well, sort of... I'm not published, but I have written plays that were performed by amateur groups and am working on some others... maybe I'll post some... wink

I'm not technically, but I am writing a musical write now...or attempting to. It's a comedy horror deal. It's about a new girl neamed Sophia who comes to a highschool and is cast as the lead in the school play. She meets an underappreciated stage manager/director named Emmy and the two become friends. Meanwhile, the girl who used to get the leads is seeking revenge through humiliation and the boy lead gets together with Sophia and then cheats on her. Both Sophia and Emmy are torn and fed up, so they decide to take sweet revenge by knocking off everyone who has hurt them. It's gonna be pretty cool and have song parodies from a bunch of other plays (I know, I have to get copywrite, but it's only gonna be in highschool theatre). So far, our songs that will be there for sure are 'Welcome to Theare' (no parody), 'Just Another' (also no parody), 'Learning to Be Violent' (based of Learnign to Be Silent from footloose), a spin off of Summer Days from Grease, and maybe a spinoff of Gaston from Beauty and the Beast.

Bah ha! Success! I scrapped that pervious idea because I realized that I too have found my grail! Musical theatre!

Sorry about that. But yes anyway, I've started work on a musical comedy, very light, very happy. I won't post the script yet, because it's really messy and not ready to be read by anyone other than myself. But here's the synopsis of the first two scenes. I'd appriciate it if I could get some criticism. (And bear in mind that this was all written in a rush in order to get it out of my head and paper, I'm a much better writer than this would show).

(By the way, since it's not mentioned below, it starts out in New York City.)

As the curtain opens, Greg sits at a typewriter, pounding aimlessly on the keys. He moans and groans as his friend, Christian hangs Greg’s college diploma on the wall telling him to buck up, that his life actually begins now and to make this the best summer of his life. Greg’s moans about how can his life be starting when he’s already supposed to move out west in week to California and work for his grandfather. Christian replies that it’s security and that to just work on his play. He bids him farewell.

Greg pounds a few more keys and then vocalizes his frustration about writer’s block through song. He blames on his unhappiness about having no say on where his life will lead and that if he could have a life of his own that wasn’t controlled by his mother’s family maybe his ideas would see fruition. Unfortunately, right when he’s about to declare what he’ll do, he’s stricken with more writer’s block and the song ends quickly. He’s about to destroy his typewriter when the phone rings. He screens the call and lets the machine pick it up. It’s his father, he begins to talk about how he’s going on vacation and needs someone to house-sit. Greg dives for the phone and answers it. His father tells him that he’s leaving for an unknown amount of time to travel North American with Greg’s step-mom, and he wants Greg to house-sit. Thinking this is almost too good to be true (and all too convenient), he immediately agrees to it. All at once, he is swarmed with inspiration and types frantically at his typewriter. Pulling the paper out, he reads it and grandly finishes his song from before, singing about how things are looking up for his writing.

As the lights come up, Greg is finished packing up for his trip when Christian. Greg hands him his keys and thanks him for watching his apartment for him and just to use it as he wants. Before he’s out the door, Christian asks him about what to do if his girlfriend, Amy, shows up. Greg tells him just to improvise something. And as his shuts the door behind him, Christian realizes something... “Wait, what if your mom calls? Have you even told her about this!?” But alas Greg, is gone.

Christian takes a moment to observe his surrounds: lavish apartment, no rent to pay, stocked fridge; immediately he burst in a quick song about all the joys he’ll experience while watching Greg’s apartment, and it’s all free. However, before the song can go on too much, in bursts Amy, ranting and raving about how she just heard Greg quit his job. She stops, surprised to see Christian there instead. After interrogating the helpless man, he confesses to her boyfriend’s whereabouts. It looks like Amy my very well explode, so he makes a hasty exit. Amy doesn’t blow up though, she breaks into tears, and then into a heart-wrenching song, describing the pain the she feel’s in Greg’s absence. To her, there in now a gaping hole in her life. One... that can only be filled by Greg’s wallet. What is she to do without her loaded boyfriend? So she decides that she’d “rather be rich in Texas than poor in New York” and hightails it to Texas after Greg.

And that's the first two scenes, roughly. Though, it's not written in detail, Greg makes it to Texas, a friend of his reads some of the musical he's written, and declares it's perfect for the local theatre to perform. After getting half the town excited, Greg doesn't have the heart to tell them all that he hasn't actually finished the play. So he constantly struggles to stay one step ahead of rehearsals, improvising many scenes and songs (one will hopefully be sung straight to the tune of "Oklahoma!").

So yeah, criticism = good.
