Kamali was skinny, lanky, and quiet as ever as he traveled through the lands in a slow, careful pace. He was much dirtier and a little more worn than usual, though. His black ears were perked so he could hear the sounds around him, though his golden gaze was directed more toward his paws. His tail was limp and his whole body gave off the impression that he was no threat, and perhaps an easy pushover right then. Though when didn't Kamali look like a pushover?

His nostrils flared and he could smell many who had passed through, or perhaps still lingered in this place. Some even smelt famaliar, some that made his brain twitch with a rememberence short lived. He could not match faces to the faint scents.

Cassidy was going to get it right this time. Not just right, but damn right. How could Phib say anything against her if she actually did her job for once? To most people, it might have been apparent. But to the somewhat rebellious young female- this was something new. She’d been a scout for about as long as the pack had existed, and so started her first official day of work.

And she was sure everyone knew about it. First Amélie- she pretended to jump the other female as she crossed the border. Of course, there had never been any doubt in Cassidy’s mind that it was Amélie- but...!

The next one she had hit was Gareth, who had been trying to hunt for Mozelle as a kind of gift. (Although- the poor male had managed scarcely a squirrel by the time the day was done.) Cassidy had approached him and scoffed, chiding him for going past the pack boundaries when there were bears. It terrified Gareth- and he had run off; although Cassidy actually had no idea if there were bears or not. Or that Phib had open borders.

No matter!

Her next stop was the lowlands. She had heard Solaris was lurking around there, and hoped that she could get another wolf to see her doing her job. But instead of Solaris, she came upon...an actual stranger!

For a moment, the brown female’s heart fluttered, and she attempted to run to find Wrigley. But by now he must have seen her, and shyly she approached him from the side.

“Um...hello....” Cassidy spoke, her wide yellow eyes blinking. Oh, damn. That was not how she was supposed to greet people!

His right ear twitched and his head jerked up at the nervous greeting. His own golden orbs narrowed slightly and then slid into a more calm gaze. He stopped his movement forward and bowed his head slightly, gaze flicking over the brown female. "Greetings." He said, after he'd done a quick study of her his eyes swept the area around them.

No longer did he feel like being friendly to every stranger he met. He should make the effort, but he really didn't feel like it. After he'd checked out everything his eyes moved back to her face, but the seemed to be foccused right above her eyes, rather than looking her in the eyes.

If he was avoiding looking at her, Cassidy was suddenly so nervous that she couldn’t even pay attention. Shyly she wagged her tail and took a few steps forward, the gangly body of the female crossing over the thick grass. “Hi-“ She repeated, before gently sitting. “Um...” Her voice trailed off, and finally she sucked in a breath and started to ramble.

“I’m really bad at all of this. I’m Cassidy- I’m patroling around here, you know-“ No, she guessed he didn’t. The brown wolf paused, and pursed her lips. “I mean, I’m not a guard. So it’s not a problem or anything that-“ Crap.

Luckily for Cassidy- Amelie had subsequently told on her once she had pounced on the poor blind seer [who may or may not have seen it coming] earlier on in the day. Coincidentally, the black wolf was only just catching up with his niece when he came upon just the end portion of the speech to the somewhat bedraggled young male. He paused and lifted his head, his ears twitching somewhat as his anger was thrown off guard.

He had made plans to scold her- but, she seemed to have actually done something for once– although she looked rather flabbergasted in doing it. It brought a sight to his throat; but he did give her credit for trying. After almost a year of living here, it was about time she got to work!

But the male he recognized, and he made himself known to them both by clearing his throat.

Cassidy dodged to the side, sheepishly grinning. For a moment Phib gave her a look, before turning to the green creature.

“Hello, Kamali.”

Patrol? Oh no, that ment he'd stumbled into foreign territories. It didn't seem so hostile, though. His ear flicked, he didn't say anything as she babbled on. Right as he was about to open his mouth to apologize and introduce himself he could hear a throat clearing.

His head swung in that direction, stance becoming rigid once more before easing somewhat. This one knew his name... His golden eyes flickered over Phib's form and he nodded. Yes, he remembered Phib. "Phib it is nice to see you again." He said slowly, his voice quiet.

He watched the female from the corner of his eye, not knowing wether to say his name again or not. "A friend of yours?" He asked the other male, really just trying to see if Phib was in this pack, or whatever.

He looked apologetically toward Cassidy, because he hadn't really said one thing to her. Well, besides 'greetings'.

A low chuckle brimmed from his throat. “My niece, Cassidy.” he remarked, walking forwards towards the pair. Cassidy slinked to the side with a slight grin, and wagged her tail sheepishly. “Who apparently seems to think making up for a year of procrastination constitutes praise.” He flatly remarked.

The brown female grinned, and rose up somewhat. “Hee...well...I am trying. See-“ She nosed over towards Kamali. She didn’t say anything more, but from the exaggerated look she gave Phib, she seemed to be suspiciously implying that Kamali might have been exactly the kind of person she was supposed to keep a look out for.

Phib shook his head slowly. “So I see. I believe I can handle this.”

Cassidy grinned, and nodded her head. “I was just about to suggest that!”

“I know.” he half spoke, not really paying much attention to her anymore. But she was pleased, and with a dutiful stomp of her feet, she reported that she would go check elsewhere, and dashed off with her tail up.

“Grand-niece, actually.” Phib reflected once she was gone. “My nephew has spawned quite a lot of them. But it is good to see you, Kamali. What brings you down this way?”

Gran-niece? It sounded like BPhib had a large family, it must have been nice. Though the grass was always greener just across the river, yeah? Kamali was just glad to know at least his siblings were alive. And stray... who wasn't so much as blood related, but he was good enough to call a brother.

"Perhaps just a bit of chance." He said slowly, brow line raising a little. And then that pained look came into his face. "More or less my family is missing." He said quietly. Daughters! Noke had wanted a family so badly... and now what? Now that family was apart. Kam didn't know where to start looking.

Why couldn't he be smart enough to know where they'd all gone to?

So really his question had meritted no answers that told him anything, except that Phib's family tree was more than likely large. "And you, have you been sticking around here then?" He shifted a little and sat himself down. "From what I gathered this is a territory." It was just an obvious remark that he would like some more information about it.

And did he ever have a large family. For as brutal and cynical as his family was known for- they had an almost eerie connection towards one another as far as families went. Perhaps it was simply because they were all fundamentally the same- typically, strong willed people who clawed at whatever they could grab to rise in the ranks of society. His father, the patriarch of it all, had over fifty-three kids; who all went on to have their own kids, and lately- those kids were having their own kids. Phib probably had enough family to forget more then a few faces.

The black king paused, his pale green eyes veiling for a moment to consider. Another family gone? The woods seemed more withdrawn then ever. “I’m sorry,” He commented, his ear shifting. Tragedy was something he had a hard time absorbing, mostly because he ate most of his own feelings that might give the appearance of being weak. But he did feel empathically sorry for the other male- particularly when he remembered his sparse comments about his devoted mate.

“It seems to be an unhappy trend,” He replied again, thinking of the harlequin colored wolf, Gizmo.

The change in conversation gears he handled rather well, although it was obvious that he was still considering Kamali’s plight even after they had stopped talking of it. “Yes, I am mostly here. It’s been busier more then usual, and I’ve been keeping a bit closer to the pack to make sure everything is going smoothly."

His fluffy tail curled around his paws as he sat, gaze lingering on phib only for another moment before he let it wander among the trees. Kamali wasn't putting tow and two together, but it was alright. Why make the effort? Well actually, he was trying to make the effort but had decided to give up thinking about it. Phib was whatever he was in however way he was to these lands. And that was that.

An unhappy trend? "Who else has lost family, that you know?" He said with a pained frown on his maw. Did he know the wolves? Maybe, maybe not. However big these woods were one would be surprised how small they were.

Phib glanced at Kamali, and considered for a moment if it was his place to say anything- or even tell Kamali for concern of upsetting him. But it itched behind his ear. He liked to talk, and he certainly liked to keep others informed. Who knew if there was some kind of connection? So while he did open his mouth to speak- in the back of his mind he privately wondered if it was really the best thing to do.

“A lot of wolves who come down this way have run out of land to walk on.” He admitted. He included himself in it. “I don’t know if it’s any more common now then it ever was- but yesterday another lone and his kid showed up. They’re friends of Amélie, it seems- but his family was lost in the storm.” He paused for a moment, thinking. “Gizmo, was his name. They’ll be living here for a bit. They don’t seem like bad sorts.”
