Dose anyone know of any good internal martial arts? I want to study martial arts, but don't think I'm cut out for an extreamly external art. I tend to be very inward and spiritual, but I often do badly at very external arts like Tae Kwan Do. I don't know egzactly wich arts are what type, but would like to learn more about the subject if I could.

The real question what styles do you have access to. I do Wing Chun which is both at once and it uses low kicks and nothing real fancy so it's not to hard. Aikido, Jujutsu and a lot of Chinese arts are more or less internal martial arts. Look up what styles are taught in your area and see if any of them fit what you are into.

What are you trying to say when you say I often do badly at very external arts. I am not good at multiple kicks or any thing like jump kicks and crap so I don't get into things like Tae Kwon Do is that the kind of thing you are talking about.

Here is a link to a lot of Chinese styles some of these are internal.

Basicly, I guess I'm saying that I want a martial art that relies on more than strengh and army like diccipline. I'm big, so everyone expects me to be strong, but I'm not that stong and dislike using my strengh. I'm hopping on an art that rilies on cunning or gentle force rather than hard blocks and brute force attacks.

Also, I want a teacher who respects his students and dosn't act like a drill sargent all the time. I had some bad experiences with my Tae Kwan Do teacher, who snapped at me all the time for not being compleatly still, serious, and quiet. I know that this depends more on the teacher than the art, but it is part of why I don't always get along with very external teachers.

Well I can't say how other schools and styles are but In my Wing Chun class we are all friends we laugh and play around from time to time nothing to serious. We do have some things that we do out of respect like not leaning up against the wall during class wile listening to some one talk we don't stand with our arms crosed I was told it's viewed as disrespectful in China and our Grandmaster was coming.

Any Way Wing Chun was created suposidly by a woman for the most part no one knows for sure if it's true. It is said that Wing Chun is good for smaller weaker people due to its techniques it is both an internal and external style. Wing Chun uses deflective blocks that just deflect the attack rather than stop it some of the blocks use the attackers force to help in unbalancing them such as the Lap Sau a punch would be deflected and the Lap Sau would jerk it out pulling you off balance. Wing Chuns spead comes from it's footwork and positioning one of the key concepts of the style is to economize movement use as little as posible. Techniques are positioned in a way to make them easy fast and strong We don't want to fight force with force the strongest will win so we use our techniques to overcome strength. Strength is important but if your techniques are made for such things you could have a huge advantage over a guy your size.

If you can study Wing Chun I would go for it I am of the William Cheung branch and I like it. There are several Wing Chun styles and they are different some use techniques others don't so you may like one and hate another.

I suggest you try some type of Tai Chi/yoga.

He's looking for a martial art though it's hard to find a martial arts based Tai Chi school these days.

chen style taiji looks very nice. The circular movements of releasing the qi are very explosive

We have people around here that do Tai Chi but they do it for health and don't teach how to use it it's sad.
