Taking a cell from an embryo:
  Is perfectly okay.
Harms the embryo in a way, but can help someone else more.
Harms the embryo, and is not worth the potential aid to someone else.
Not sure, or I've got a different opinion you forgot to list.

I'm against creating embryos for only the purpose of testing on them.

Errr....... Well, the rate of adoption among unwanted embryos is kinda low.

Just wanted to put that in.
That's pretty much exactly what I'm saying: Creating a way to remove the cells without injuring the embryo helps nothing at all, as the embryo is still going to die anyways.

You're missing what I'm saying--that you're against the creation of spare embryos; there's nothing inherently wrong with taking a cell from an embryo.

I don't understand why there isn't a stronger pro-life crusade against multiple-embryo IVF. Maybe it's a religious thing, like they don't want to discourage people from having kids.... gonk
I think that people just don't understand the connotations. Like, I didn't actively think "IVF is the same as abortion," until it came up in debate at one point, and then I was like, "Woah. Yeah. That's wrong. Sorry." I didn't really think about the fact that many are created, or what happens to the many afterwards.

And no, there isn't anything inherently wrong with pulling a cell from an embryo, as long as it's going to be implanted. But it rarely happens that IVF involves only embryos that are going to be implanted.

According to the Mother Jones article I found on frozen embryos, IVF and stem cells, many countries in Europe, Italy and Germany, I believe they mentioned, only allow the creation of one embryo at a time for IVF. If it doesn't grow, they try again, but there's none of the let's-create-a-bunch-just-in-case, which is where the glut of frozen embryos in the US comes from. Companies don't want to take the one at a time route, because it's less profitable, and in the US, the government answers to business, not the other way around.

That's capitalism for you... stare
