Okay, I have one ear-ring in each ear. Last night I was going to get my right ear pierced once again just slightly higher. My mom, in a last-ditch effort to get me to not pierce it said: "you know one piercing means you're gay right?"
This caught me off guard for a few reasons.
1. Is she trying to say that being gay is a bad, shameful thing? 2. Does she honestly think I give a care? 3. Why would this be her last-resort?
Usually she is accepting of gays. Not bisexuals like me, or asexuals like my friends. She believes that you're either gay or straight. Nothing else. But that's another point.
What do you think about what my mom said?

I've never heard of that.. and I dont see why she'd say that trying to get you not to pierce it again. I guess maybe she thinks you're not gay friendly or something and she doesn't want you to get it? I dunno.. parents are weird.

What do you think about what my mom said? Well...for the record I always thought that it was the left ear...and that's where I have my second piercing...I only got it because I loose far too many earings so I have alot of singles that I can wear. Maybe she just doesn't want you to get another piercing? Like Akurei said, parents are interesting, complex, and unpredictable beings (they probably say the same thing about us 4laugh ) and ho-boy does your mom sound just like my mom. I tried to explain to her the concept of love being love, how some people can fall in love with the soul of a person, no matter what the gender. She replied, and I quote, "Well in that case you just stay really good friends!" ... rolleyes

Generally, here the standard of measure is that a single piercing in the right ear, that is no piercings in the left ear period, results in a person nonverbally demonstraiting their homosexuality.
This was also hilariously played on in a Beavis and Butt-head episode where the duo decide to pierce their ears and after various attempts they finally use a power-drill to pierce their ears, when they then go into the ear ring shop, and are informed by the cashier that a single piercing in your right ear is a symbol for being homosexual, and that matching earings (which Beavis and Butthead had purchased) denoted one's partner.
So in general, I think Indiana follows the Beavis and Butt-head ruling.

What do you think about what my mom said? My uber straight friend had 3 holes at one point. I have 5, one of my gay friends had 6 4 on one and 2 on the other. It used to be a code that if you had your right ear pierced along with "friends of Dorothy" and whatnot, but it really means nothing anymore. I heard refernces to the right thing on the Fresh Prince once,

I think it means your mom needs to grow up. What the hell is with that arguement? So I have both ears pierced - does that mean I'm gay and married? Because that, as far as I know, is illegal in Colorado.

zomg. Are you being serious ? I think that piercing your ears has NOTHING to do with your sexual orientation. I can't believe that people made that as something that means someone is gay or not. =.= I wish someone would explain that, but oh well. I know how you would feel if you took it as your mom is saying being gay is something shameful. Thanks to my dad for making me feel that way, although he doesn't know that I am, I don't think...>> But that's off-topic.

I agree with Akurei and Radd, both that piercings of any nature don't really reflect on ones sexualiity, and also that parents are just plain wierd u.u

I have heard a lot of people saying different things about different numbers. So I say just get a lip or eyebrow ring. I personally have 1 piercing in the 'normal' spots on my ears but I rarely wear earrings. I am planning on getting a lip ring. Oh and if you are wondering my anatomy says I am female my brain doesn't know what to think because of my mixed up past I really don't see people as having a gender etc. Hope that helps.
