The air was calm and left the surface of the river smooth and still. Initial panic had resided and a large variety of fish returned to their darting tasks. The day's heat was dispersing quickly and the sun was preparing for its slow descent for the coming night.

A mud covered form sat upright in the shallows. Meskeet had been in the water for such a decent amount of time that by now she no longer felt the slight cold. Dried mud cracked as she slowly climbed up the bank and shook herself free of whatever had become loose.

She was getting fat. Possitively dreadful. Not in a vain way either, though she did dislike carrying the extra weight when she ventured out on one of her ever so frequent hunts. Nope, she was fat in a way she had always frowned upon. Fat in an expectant way.

Damn.

While she'd yet to find many positives about her new shape, she had found one slim joy from it. Xipetotec's surprise became anger faster than she'd have believed possible for him when she broke the news with a smug face. He had chased her into the river and rushed her, but he hadn't actually harmed her. She deeply enjoyed watching his throes of rage. But when he left it wasn't as if she'd have missed his company.

Getting pregnant had one advantage she supposed.

But only one.

After all, she couldn't exactly stay here and get more swollen in the stomach with each coming day. And, truth be told, she feared Phantom's response.

Arguin had to screw everything up.

Things hadn't been this quiet in a while. Everything seemed like it was stuck in pause, no one really communicating, least to him. Arguin was still an outcast and wanderer in Phib's territory. Trying to battle against his darker half within. But for some reason it seemed easier to do nowadays. Like something had eased the strength of it upon his body.

But he didn't know why.

Today was a day to reminisce for him. Reflect upon himself, his control, his strengths. He was trying to become a new wolf, different, stronger, faster, more worthy of staying in this era on this earth.

He was starting to change.

Not how Croanyl would've wanted, oh no. Croanyl was manipulative, Arguin knew he was somewhere, plotting, revenge and hate in that gray wolf's heart Arguin knew trouble would brew again. But he wasn't sure when that time would arrive.

So he padded along the river. Being a 'guard' meant he had to watch the borders, patrol. Watch everything, be strong...learn. Something was on the wind, anotehr scent. Familiar too. Someone was coming? Wasn't Croanyl, someone else that made something in his stomach jerk at the thought of who it could be.

But why couldn't he remember?

PLopping down on the river's backside he watched at a few stray sticks were carried with the current past him at a slow steady pace. Someone was near, but he couldn't see them. Perhaps they were hiding...stalking him.

Pfft, let them try.

Perhaps his day could become more interesting afterall.

It was a fine mixture of doubt and newly found instinct that had led Meskeet to the river that afternoon. It was a hint of cruelty that made her stay there until the evening. And it was sheer hopelessness that drove her to slink along the banks in a familiar but normally avoided direction.

She was sure he would smell her before she spotted him, just as she was sure he would be there.

Life seemed to be setting itself up and all Meskeet had to do was follow it blindly. Unfortunately she preferred to leave her fate to her own hands. But look what good that had done her.

A familiar face wasn't too long to appear. While she couldn't distungish exact features until she got closer Meskeet had no doubt who it was based on the blue and white coat.

Emerging from the overgrown weeds along the river Meskeet stood and glared at Arguin with the most vile look she could muster.

Arguin was quite content with himself and how he was just wasting time away. It was quiet here, for once. Without teh bother of his brother or anyone else around. It was...weird. The familiar scent corssed his nose again, and he turned his head to have his slate eyes fall on the brown figure he remembered all too well.

"Hello Meskeet..." he spoke flatly, what did she want now? Sure, they ahd some laughs in the past. But she said she wanted to kill him, he did have revenge...sweet revenge actually. He remembered that moment fondly in a odd strange way. He wondered why she had come this way though? Perhaps she had run away from wherever she had disappeared to before.

"What brings you this way hmmm? Give it another go?" he smirked. He knew that would make her angry, she looked so beautiful when she was mad. A smirk was plastered on his maw, and he loved how disturbed she appeared.

Meskeet snarled. She had very little patience with him after their last encounter. His little taunts were easily spotted, but quite effective just the same.

"Shut up you old fool." She couldn't stand it when he talked. Usually she would just ignore whoever it was, but he was particularly bothersome.

Sitting down she glared at him in a crazed fashion for a moment as she collected her thoughts. Why was she here?

"You go ahead and think you're so terribly clever, you've only caused a temporary problem. Did you actually think I'd waste my time rearing your ugly little spawns?" Of course not! She'd kill the damn rats.

All she had to do was expell them from her body, destroy them, and go home. Atleast that was all she figured she'd have to do.

Arguin smirked and chuckled to himself watching her seem so upset. She really did seem more...appealing to him when angry. Perhaps it was the way her eyes glinted in a shady sort of way, or how her tail arched, perhaps that was it. Not matter, his antics seemed to be annoying her.

"Old fool? Hardly...if I'm an old fool Meskeet...shall I call you kid?" he smirked narrowing his eyes. He could play mind games too. If he was so old, then she would be referred to as a pup, yes, maybe that would eat at her too.

He went to say something else but stopped. Tilting his head, ears twitching to the side, he didn't understand her last sentence. Was she just trying to get even with the mind games...or was she telling the truth?
"Spawn? Hell don't think I'm a family type of wolf Meskeet...go find another male to make you have pups..." Though he had to admit to himself, he'd kill anyone who touched her.

Meskeet cursed inwardly at him. Was he really so stupid? Probably.

So why was he being so ignorant? She was puzzled by this and utterly ignored his first comment. Old men were always trying to be cunning.

"As if I would ever want a bunch of little brats. And what the hell is wrong with you? Idiot. If you're going to screw things up you might as well own up to it."

Really, she wasn't asking for much. All she wanted was to have some satisfaction in killing something he didn't want dead. That didn't seem to likely though.

Perhaps she would just have to spin things a different way..
PostPosted: Fri Aug 25, 2006 4:38 pm

So now Arguin was caught in a dilemma apparantely. Meskeet WAS going to have pups? What the hell. How would she have become...oh wait, thats right. He smirked at the thought of that moment. Good times good times. He was actually able to seek his revenge on Meskeet for wanting to kill him. These 'brats' as she called them though, he didn't want dead. They could have a use.

"Fine then, so what do you need Meskeet, place to stay I take it?" Arguin asked. He was mocking her in tone, but he did actually care. Meskeet was one of the few wolves he was ever able to connect with...even if it was in a rough sort of way. "If you need me to take care of you Meskeet....you just have to ask..." he said smiling. He knew that would anger her. Meskeet, he knew, wasn't one that wanted handouts and could take care of herself. But now, the fate of his blood being carried on to the next generation was important.

(( It's alright. ^^ I'm having the same problem with Kiah and Xipetotec. :3 ))

He had to die. He really really really did. Meskeet had agreed on that numerous times, and she'd yet to have a moment where she felt otherwise. She grew stiff and there was a distant gleam in her eyes.

"I don't need anything from anyone, least of all you." That would mean she was weak. Which wasn't an option. "I simply thought you'd like know since it isn't like you'll ever see them breathing. Pity isn't it? When you die, there'll be no one left to carry out your plans. Shame shame Arguin. You can't last forever."

Meskeet figured he did indeed have plans for his blood. But if he wanted to taunt her she'd return the favor.
PostPosted: Fri Aug 25, 2006 5:42 pm

Arguin watched her and his eyes narrowed. He stood up and didn't even bother to shake himself of any dust that might have clung to his fur. "So you'd just kill them hmm? Just like how you were supposed to kill me...well looky how that turned out Meskeet..." he spoke with anger. She wouldn't dare kill any of his children, even if he disliked her. It was his blood as well. He had a say in their fate. And if she was to have a son...and she threatened him...well...he'd bring up the pup to hate her. Even a daughter, it didn't matter, it was still his blood.

"Perhaps I won't live forever Meskeet, I know that for a fact...but neither will you." Ge circled around her, as if trying to figure out how long it would be until she would give birth to the pups. He also felt bad for treating her as he was, but he knew if he was any softer, she'd mock him and not even care. Honestly he really hated how they had such a bitter distaste for one another. He hoped if anything, they could make a family together in peace. But it seemed fate did not have that in store for them.

"Arguing won't get us anywhere Meskeet...how about this. Whether or not you want to keep the pups, I don't care. If you want to dump them off, fine. I'll watch them then, then you can flit off and do whatever you must..." perhaps she'd get jealous and want to raise one herself. Arguin just didn't see the point in killing a creature that you yourself had created, when they had done nothing to recieve such a fate as an early demise. "If you want, until after the pups are born and your well enough..." he bit his tongue. Why was he being like this? Surely she'd laugh at him and not appreciate what he was trying to do for her...trying to be for her, "I'll hunt and protect you..." Then he just stayed silent awaiting what she had to say in return.

She'd hit a cord, but Meskeet was equally mad. The nerve of him trying to belittle her, as if she were some stupid child. Instead of getting into her normal attack frame of mind she lay down completely and growled at him with her body utterly tense and her ears back flat against her head. How she loathed him sometimes.

"I will kill you. Maybe not now, but you won't win everytime." And when the opportunity finally presented itself she would savor it for all it was worth.

She listened to him with a hormone induced anger. Leave the pups for him? Leave them alive? Then her blood would grow up to be like him, would actually be living and breathing. Whether she feared that or simply saw it as impossible Meskeet couldn't decide.

It was hard to believe him. Especially difficult to accept that he would protect her. It was a wild idea she couldn't seem to grasp. "You can have the little useless things but don't bother doing anything for me. You're help isn't wanted. If you're around to grab them when they're born is entirely you're responsibility. I won't come looking for you again. If you aren't there and they die when I leave, it'll be your fault not mine."
PostPosted: Fri Aug 25, 2006 8:44 pm

Arguin sighed and folded his ears back, "So you wouldn't care about them? Not even to raise them to hate me?" he asked. He was trying to think of ways to get Meskeet to not want to kill them. Children were children, grew yes, but could be molded by parents. Not that he and Meskeet would ever be parents together. That fact seemed impossible for his mind to comprehend.

She even still wanted to kill him.

Perhaps he should just let her do it now, stop his suffering living each day out all alone, waiting for the day Croanyl would appear and manipulate him again. That was another thing to consider,
"You can't be by yourself...there's a wolf wandering around somewhere...I can't track him...but he'll try to kill you no doubt..." He stood up and turned around and sat down facing away from her now.

"He's the reason I'm no a seer or shaman anymore..." He turned his head to look at her, an odd emotion in his eyes, "If he can do that to me I'd haet to think of what he'd do to you...stay around here...let me make sure your alright. Then after the pups are born...you can decide what you want to do..."

He still hated Meskeet deep down, but he couldn't not accept that he did care for her. Even if she didn't want to accept that fact, or accept him, "I know I'm a failure...I know I'm worthless Meskeet...just let me try and do something right before I die..." Raising his eyes from the ground he just stared at her with forlorn eyes, "even if I have to die by your fangs....let me try and do something right..."

Meskeet stared at him, stunned. He'd completely turned around personality wise. Atleast she thought so. What the heck was going on with wolves these days?

"Pull yourself together man. No, I wouldn't care about them. I'm not that way. But you expect to be able to raise them? If this is how you're going to act then I'm going to have to bloody stick around so they don't turn into pansies." She grumbled. He was the most confusing wolf she'd ever met. And it even took away the fun of being her rude cold self. Honestly, it was sad. If something with her blood was going to live in this world, she'd be damned if it'd be a wuss.

A wolf who could kill her? That'd be the day. Evil just doesn't die. As if Arguin could help her. Ha! The idea made her roll her eyes.

She stood up and stretched out her front legs. She was rushing into stupid things, but if these pups were going to grow up she'd rather they weren't goody goody Phib followers. "You won't raise them here. Take me some place far away."

Life sucked. Not only where these monsters going to live, but she'd have to stick around atleast until they were weaned to make sure he didn't make them soft. Not that she cared. Not that she would ever even remotely like them.

Arguin sighed and shook his head, as if trying to erase anything that was lingering on his mind. It was disappointing that Meskeet was being such a hard a**....oh well. She was pregnant afterall, perhaps she would change. Even jsut a little bit for the better would be nice.

He was still battling within himself afterall. And he doubted she wanted the lesser half of him around to bother her, boss her around and make her feel intimidated all the time. He knew she was a strong wolfess, but still, he didn't want to seem like he was overly forceful.

But he was taken aback by what she said. Take her away from here? FAR away? Was she crazy?....though that was entirely possible. He couldn't leave here, what would Phib think then labling him as an enemy for staying then leaving. Daemon surely would follow them and bring them back. His den was however on the outskirts of Phib's territory, he barely saw anyone around there.

"Traveling far will stress your body too much...it wouldn't be good..." Arguin said standing up, stretching his legs for a moment. "Besides, my den is on the farther boundries of Phib's territory, no one comes around there, cept' my brother sometimes. But even he has been wandering off somewhere. It'd also be good to be close to a larger group, in case of trouble..." he said fatter-of-factly.

"If you want to keep your being here a secret, I can understand..." Arguin got the idea Meskeet didn't do well around Phib. "I won't say anything. Daemon has been leaving me alone...the only other one who has been wandering around is Rage...she's a black wolfess...but she always seems lost in thought...she won't be a bother..." Arguin also thought staying close to here would be good. There was definitely enough food for them also. And they were close to water.

Meskeet sneered. Daemon, Arguin's keeper. For two brothers who disliked each other they seemed quite adimant about keeping each other close. Not like her family at all.

The idea of staying here bothered her a great deal. Not only did Phantom hate Phib, but it wasn't terribly far from Phantom's lands. And it wasn't like neither Phib nor Phantom had seers. But then again perhaps nothing would come of it.

If there was ever trouble she didn't see what the point would be of being near a large pack. She, after all, didn't intend to go anywhere near Outrider members. Aside from Arguin but that was an exception at the moment.

"Fine. But when they can eat solid food you better move the brats somewhere else."

Meskeet felt this would be one wreck after another and couldn't wait to get away from the situation entirely.
