戦国時代の初め
応仁の乱

The beginning of Sengoku period
Onin war

People were displeased with ashikaga yoshimasa (足利 義政) the shogun. his government was breaking, and social structure was horrendous, with eta and hinin doing murder, and more ronin! the daimyo were unsatisfied too. then one day our idiot shogun did something that would cause japan problems, and hcnaging it for 300 years (really big for such small thing.

he dragged his brother out into crowd, his name was ashikaga yoshimi (足利義視). but later in with the birth of his son ashikaga yoshihisa(足利 義尚) he decided to make him shogun.

the yamana and hosokawa clan were rival. they always interefere in shogun affiars. so it was decided all nobles must side on either yoshihisa or yoshimi's side. yamana souzen side with yoshimasa's sun, and hosokawa katusmoto with yoshimi. aside form opposing thoughts, the 2 were being related: Souzen was father of katsumoto wife. so now they have an excuse to fight.

THE war

the war started when the yamana burned the hosokawa mansion. it then started 1467, and the north of kyoto became ruined, and everyone had left. souzen and kastumoto died in 1473, but the war continuing until 1477, when ouchi masahiro, general or souzen burn his part of kyoto. kyoto now became a place to steal. the shogun did nothing.while kyoto agonized he was building ginkakuji. this caused anger in japan. the daimyo revolted. war had been stopping in kyoto, but now it seem it every where else.

Quote:
the Ashikaga government got destroyed. Hosokawa family was really the shogun, the shogun were there puupet. When Yoshimi's son Yoshitane was made shogun in 1490, the Hosokawa Kanrei made at 1493 Yoshizumi, to be shogun. In 1499, Yoshitane arrived at Yamaguchi, the capital of the Ouchi, and this powerful family threw its military support behind Yoshitane. In 1507, the Kanrei Hosokawa Matsumoto was assassinated and in 1508, Yoshizumi left Kyoto and the Ouchi restored the shogunate to Yoshitane. Thence began a series of strange conflicts over control of the puppet government of the shogunate. After the death of Hosokawa Matsumoto, his adopted sons Takakuni and Sumimoto began to fight over the succession to the Kanrei, but Sumimoto himself was a puppet of one of his vassals. This would characterize the wars following the Onin War; these wars were more about control over puppet governments than they were about high ideals or simply greed for territory. The Hosokawa family would control the shogunate until 1558 when they were betrayed by a vassal family. The powerful Ouchi were also destroyed by a vassal in 1551; by the end of the Warring States period only a dozen or so warlord families still remained standing. But the most important development to come out of the Onin War was the ceaseless civil war that ignited outside the capital city. Hosokawa tried to foment civil strife in the Ouchi domains, for instance, and this civil strife would eventually force Ouchi to submit and leave.
