Maybe we should look at this from a Nextel Cup point of view just for comparison. Lets pretend its maybe 5 races til the chase deadline and we'll say Kasey Kahne is 11th and is tryen to make up points to catch 10th place which he trails by about 100 points. (im not saying this is truth its just an example) Well Kasey is leading in the dying laps and a track filler car such as Boris Said is coming up behind Kasey and this is Boris's thrid race of the season where Kasey has started every race in the season. On the final lap, what if Boris decides not to race Kasey clean and wrecks him forcing Kasey to a bad finish. Would we look at it any differently than we looked at the Edwards Earnhardt incident? Please voice some opinions on this thought.
If that was the case, then yes, it would be wrong. But...Several people have pointed out that Carl got loose, and that Junior had no obligation to lift. They're racing! If Kasey got loose and Boris hit him and spun Kasey, then that's a racing deal. I don't care who the two drivers are, If Dale Jr. got loose and Carl wrecked him, if Dale Sr. came back to life, got loose and Jimmie Johnson wrecked him.....well, let's not go there. domokun But you see my point, you race to win, not politely finish second. It's like that one commercial with several of Roush's drivers in it, when they wave other cars by and stay in the pits. "We just want the other guys have a chance!" It's funny because of how silly the notion is.

i just think it was a racing deal.

but what carl did was uncalled for, especially hitting the side of junior's car and almost injuring another driver.

In defense of Carl, how could he know Jr's hand was out the window?

Carl should have never rammed Jr. car to begin with. Contact during the race is one thing, contact after the race is a whole other can of worms. It's like Hockey, if you fight with someone, it's cool, you just get a penalty. If you start beating on them with your stick, not just high-sticking, but beating the crap out of them, I hear you can get brought up on criminal charges. You cross that line, which is what Carl did. I wouldn't be surprised to see Carl sitting out Bristol. Yeah it probably won't happen though, though the penaly he will get will be the massive.

I think if NASCAR wants to continue to argue that they are consistant with their decisions in giving penalties they shouldn't have fined Carl Edwards and put him on probation. Tony Stewart got away with worse than that repeatedly.

They aren't consistent with they're penalties...i wonder, if edwards didn't retaliate on earnhardt jr, would they have punished junior?

I bet they wouldn't punish junior just because of the prestige he brings to NASCAR. That makes two incidente this year where drivers have been leading in the dying laps when a guy comes up from behind them and wrecks em to take the win. (the other one being between Matt Kenseth and Jeff Gordon)

We know Triple, but we still love you. wink

I don't like the message this penalty sends. Nascar claims that they seperate the series, that becasue Carl was on probation in the cup, it didn't count for the Busch. stare

Remember when Kevin Harvick got parked for a cup race for actions in a truck race? One of the best arguments against Nascar being a 'real' sport is the governing body's lack of consistancy. Add another log to that fire. sweatdrop
