Out on the skirts of the Elephant Graveyard, a bit past the lion territory, there wandered two hyenas. Leader and follower. Mother and son. Mafa and Mabozi. Mafa walked ahead of the two, head held high and her regal figure skimming its way through the dusty air. She had waltzed through the lion part of the graveyard, son in tow, as if there wasn't a thing to worry about. The lions there didn't scare her, and she knew they feared her to boot. The alpha female had grown even more confident in the past few days as more and more young hyenas were rallied into the pack. The younger the animal, the easier it was for her to manipulate it to her will, and she was manipulating as much as she wanted.
Behind the tall, awe inspiring figure of Mafa, loped young Mabozi. He was entering a strange phase in his growth. Stuck between a puppy and an adolescent, Bozi looked like a little rat compared to his mother. His limbs were long and lanky, and his rib cage wide, a sure sign that when he did grow into his body, he'd be enormous, bigger and better than his mother. Not better in mind set, for Mabozi was a total idiot. With that infamous, goofy, but loving smile plastered on his maw, Mabozi trotted obediantly after his mother. He was totally devoted to her; even though he was one of the creature she didn't really care for. Not that he noticed, Mabozi was oblivious to all things bad. Sunshine and rainbows in this pup's head.
"MaMa, wha' we 'ere for?"
Mafa had dragged her son through the Graveyard to actually teach him a few things, seeing as how without the proper training, all that power he was honing would go to waste.
"To kill something Mabozi, you need to kill something"

Not too far off, was the brown, muddy looking hyena. Only he looked perhaps a little more bloody, especially around his paws, hindquarters and underbelly, where he'd been woulded. Now that his two foes were out of sight, he strided more calmly, though one paw touched the ground more lightly that the other four, and one hind paw seemed to be giving a bit of trouble aswell.
It wasen't only paw injuries that were making him a little more awkward when moving, his belly bleeded much more than his limbs, where he had received a strongest blow, and it dripped to leave a line of blood as he moved.
He'd have to stop to tend his wounds, he decided. The wind was blowing from him to the graveyard, carrying the scent of blood in Mafa and Mabozi's direction, while he would remaind oblivious to their presense untill they were seen or heard.

The scent of fresh blood did indeed float on Mafa and Mabozi's way. For a moment, Mafa got excited, perhaps it was something wounded for her son to take down, but on further investigation, she deemed that it indeed wasn't. It was Tibuka, and from the way it smelled, he was a bit worse for wear. But, it was blood after all. Mafa's head craned to see if Mabozi had picked up the scent as well.
Trotting along, Mabozi had become fascinated with all the grass and dirt around him. Everything was so colorful here compared to his usual home. He had been pawing at a beetle when some scent wafted across his young nose. The pup's head perked, tilting comically to one side and then quickly to the other. That was blood, a food smell! A good smell. His youthful face jerked to his mother,
"Zat wha' we loo'in' for?"
Mafa shook her head with a light growl,
"It's Tibuka you smell, you idiot, now go see what the matter is."
Despite his mother's harsh tone and cruel words, Mabozi nodded entusiastically and beamed a grin up at Mafa. Shortly after, he turned, using his nose to locate Tibuka and then started to hurdle his way,
"AUUUUUUUNNN'IIIEEEEE!!!"

Ears pricked foreward, and the strides stopped, he male hyena was now with his head lifted, gazing in the direction of where he heard something, that untill soon he had found it hard to distinguish. "Mabozi. " He muttered, half annoyed, half startled, he was in no condition to be tackled by the thing.
He wached the pup come at him, and sidestepped just as it came a little too close, with a quiet whine, clearly afraid the pup would turn and smash into him, that would make his belly-wound worse.
"Mabozi! "
He growled, hoping that would stop the pup from doing so.

Mabozi took hurdling leaps toward Tibuka. Boy was he excited to see his good ole Auntie! By the time he was within a few yards of Tibuka, he figured that something wasn't right. Perhaps it was the smell of blood, or Tibuka's posture, but something clicked in Mabozi's brain and he slowed down to a light trot, and reached his nanny that way. Immediately, his tail wagging ceased, and a look of worry splayed his features. Brilliant green eyes surveyed how torn up Tibuka looked, it wasn't a happy sight, and it pulled at Mabozi's heart strings... Just as everything else did of course. With a whine, Mabozi layed down on his belly and crawled over to Tibuka, his pink tounge flicking upwards at the older male with the most sympathy he could offer.
Not far behind, came Mafa. She didn't even wince at the sight of poor Tibuka, infact, she smiled. Ignoring Mabozi, she stepped forward, eyes narrowed and critical. Her tone varied from cruel and mocking to playful, it was hard to tell.
"So, Tibuka, what'd you do now?"

The male didn't answer emmediatly, and instead cast a suspicious glance at Mabozi, as if half expecting the energetic creature to suddenly leap up onto him, butthe pup seemed to relax, and he tried to sit, only to find that was rather painfull thanks to the wound on his hind quarters, and stand up again.
"A lion 'n a cheetah, this time. Both stupid creatures didn't seem to know what a hyena is. " He said, letting a tiny huff of amusement escape. "Well, now they know. " He finished, a flicker of mischeif shining in his brilliant cyan eyes, as if to complete the frase with 'nothing good'.

Mafa's usually expressionless face contorted into a malicious, but proud seeming smile. There were few that Mafa actually would sincerely smile for, and Tibuka just so happened to be one of them. The alpha tilted her head regally, nodding to show him her approval.
"Excellent Tibuka, excellent. You are proving to be one of my best investments..."
Though she wasn't about to gush with pride over the fact that Tibuka was a regular machine with roughing up these lions, she'd hint at it. And with Mafa, the small amount of praise you were offerered; you learned to take that accept it as something grand. Tibuka was climbing that ranking ladded, that was for sure.
Mabozi's eyes grew wide as Tibuka calmly explained the cause of his injuried. So brave! Bozi would quicker high tail it away from a lion than go after one and fight as Tibuka had! Mabozi sat up, eyes now full of wonder and pride, he was proud just knowing Tibuka at this point!
"Wooaaaa! Aun'ie, teach me a be bra'e!"

He smiled, swishing his tail before shotting an unsure glance towards Mabozi. "Uh.. sure. " He umbled, though inwardly thought the pup was a lost case.
"Ah, 'n there are the other two from earlier. " He motioned to a few newer scars on his back, hough already starting to hide under his fur.
"Found oe fightin' with that new guy, Yakuti. Got in to help 'n another one joined. Then Yakuti fainted an' I had to get away 'fore they killed ím. " He said that a little less proudly, obviously displeased that he had to back away from a good fight.

Mafa's eyes narrowed, her head tilting in intrest. Why had she never been informed about this? Her tone this time, lingered on the edge of sarcastic and angry,
"And when was I going to be reported to on all of this? Omnipotent as I am, I don't know everything that goes on."
Yes, she was irked that no one bothered to tell her about such things, but she was proud of the way this pack was going. Yakuti's fainting was indeed a sign of weakness, but it was also a sign of inexperience, which could easily be fixed. There was defintely hope for Yakuti, perhaps there was for Mabozi too.
"We can go into detail later, we have got a reason for being here, you know. Mabozi's yet to have his first kill, his feeling of power, sight of agony. I'm hoping it will straighten him out... At least a little"

"When I found you? "
He answered, finding it rather annoying that she didn't like the idea. Though he shook it off with a flick of his ears. He blinked when Mafa talked next, about Mabozi needing to kill. He glanced at the pup, then back to his mother.
"Quite.. If I'd known, I'd have dragged the cheetah back, then. "
He gave a small snort, before realising that even that pink cheetah would probably beat daylights out of something so pathetic as Mabozi.

Mafa's icy eyes flared open, but quickly narrowed, giving Tibuka a 'don't-take-that-tone-with-me-mister' kind of look. Attitude, was something she didn't look forward to getting back. 'Yes' or 'Sorry', would've been the correct answers to her question. A Tibuka continued on though, she pushed that thought to the back of her head. Cheetah eh? With some coaxing, and wounding the animal first, a lithe and fragile cheetah would've been perfect. She cast a glance to Mabozi, who was trying to look serious and was nodding along to their conversation. But she knew he wasn't absorbing a word that was said, hell, he probably wasn't even hearing them.
"Well, seems like a substitute is in order..."

If Tibuka saw the look, he ignored it, he found nothing scary on her right now, he just wanted to lie down and take care of his wounds.
"I can find a gazelle. or somethin'. "
He muttered half-heartedly, gazing away into what may appear nothing, clearly not wanting to need to go find something.

He was tired, she understood, but still, he should be enthusiastic about this. Besides, Mabozi was his responsibility in the first place, she was just being a good hyena and taking over for a bit. She scoffed, shaking her head,
"/Please/ don't stress yourself too much... God forbid..."
That last part was a barely audiable murmur, her tone just dripping in sarcasam. Also, as of late, Mafa had been calling upon the gods, whether she noticed it or not, in her sarcastic sayings and outbursts. Perhaps it was nothing, perhaps it was something, nothing was for sure yet.
Mabozi, on the other hand, was being very serious about the situation.
"MaMa! Aunt'ie hassa res'! Hesa hur'! Isn' tha'?"
His head turned to Tibuka, looking at him sternly. Mabozi had never been in pain before, he lived a sheltered life, so he had no idea what his 'Auntie' was going through, but he was sure it wasn't comfortable.
"MaMa and I can play 'ogether! Righ'?"
He beamed up at his mother, obviously not grasping that she was planning to train him to be a murderer.
