"Your fur is all spotty so it threw off my judgement." Deidre said as she saw Shadow craning to see herself and impose judgement. "You're mostly symmetrical, I'm sure." She nodded. "I like you." This was based upon the fact that shadow was indeed symmetrical, which seemed to be Deidre's only criteria that mattered. It gave one the impression that if someone tried to murder her she'd forgive them so long as both sides of them looked the same. "What's clingy? Is it like how people say Dad's affectionate and then cough a lot?"

Comet looked appalled. "Well then they have no taste. You're charming!" He then tensed a little at Deidre's comment. She had no sense of restraint. "Ah, I'm sure they just had colds when they talked to you, Deidei." he said smoothly. "But Miss Shadow, it's horrible that your daughter doesn't realize how blessed she is to have you as her mother."

((I'm really hoping this post makes some kind of logical sense... Seeing as I'm posting it at 2AM as it's one of the few chances I've gotten to respond in the past couple of days...))

Baffled by the quick and seemingly nonsensical changes in the Dei's veiw of her, Shadow gave the young feline a wide-eyed look. "I... Thank you Deidei, that's very nice of you to say," She managed to get out in a resonably believable tone of voice. She then proceeded to get ever more confused by the father and daughter interplay that happened just a moment later. Affectionate? Well, Comet certainly was kind, but he wasn't clingly like how Ashley had complained that she herself was. Unless they meant... Oh. Shadow blushed under her fur, her tail flickering in nervous embarrasment.

Abruptly pulled out of her thoughts by Comet's timely mention of her daughter, Shadow's ears flicked uncertainly. "She seems to get along well with her father, and her brother seems to like me alright... She's more of a loner though, and likes to do things her way."

About to suggest that maybe she and Dei might get along, she pauses and wonders somewhat about her daughter's fur. "It might be nice if she and Dei met each other, but I don't think that Abbey's fur is completely symmetrical..."

Comet shrugged. "That's okay. If I tell Deidre to, she'll do it, and she has ways of voping with nonsymmetricalness. If she has a symmetrical spot Deidei could look at or if she agrees to wear clothes like sweaters to cover up the unsymmetrical bits that helps." If not, she just tends to close her eyes while she visits with someone."

Deidre nodded affirmittvely. "Or I look the other way." she added.

Shadow glances back and forth between the other two, uncertain about trying to force the two girls to be friends. "Well, it's actually her clothing style that is the least symmetrical... But... Here, I can show you a picture of her," She mentioned as she dug a small folded photo out from behind the sash of her dress. Unfolding the photo, she held it out for both of them to see. "It's just a copy of her photo from when she was registered at the pound, but it's the only one I have of her," Shadow commented softly, looking at the feline in the picture with longing.

Comet tutted. It still seemed a horrible shame that a girl couldn't get along with a lovely, friendly mother like Shadow. The girl took after her mother, he noticed. She had the same features that would be sure to make her a beauty as she got older. "What a beautiful daughter." he said, smiling at Shadow. Part of his mind that could not be repressed added up Shadow points for complimenting her daughter. But Deidre was obviously going to start twitching the moment she saw this girl. He looked at the daughter and noticed that she was fidgeting as she looked at the picture, possesed by her horrible urge to make things symmetrical.

Deidre looked at the picture and fidgeted. This girl was VERY, VERY unsymmetrical. But why? Her mother was symmetrical! It was awful. Trying not to hurt Shadow's feelings, she said "Yes, I bet we'd... get along like a house on fire!" People trying to escape and foundations collapsing...

"I, thank you," Shadow murmered, smiling at Comet, "She... Abbey inherited my colors, and her father's patterning..." Which gave her a very interesting pattern and color combination, given that her father was a Tabby, but it really was sweet of Comet to say that.

Picking up on the nervous behavior that Dei is displaying, Shadow just smiled reassuringly. "She spends most of her time at Kali's anyway... She says that it's too crowded for her liking here at Wayward... Even though there are more inhabitants there then here." Shadow could understand though, sometimes the children and teens at Wayward tended to mob new faces in a rather misguided and overbearing attempt to make them feel 'welcome'.

Deidre nodded. "That's... too bad. I'm sure that she's sorry she's missing out on all the fun here." People were fun here... And symmetrical. Deidre felt that if they weren't they wouldn't be fun. She yawned. It was getting late, and it had been a busy day in an unsymmetrical place and then she ran into Dad and Shadow and now she was having trouble keeping her eyes open. However, she tattempted to look awake because staying up late was a grown up thing to do.

Comet didn't pick up on Deidre's sleepy vibe. As a father, he wasn't a very good one. In fact, Deidre could probably have found a better father in, say, a common garden hose. At least it'd compel her to bathe regularly. Instead, he continued to converse with Shadow. "You really ought to bring her here at least once, I think. This place is a great place for kids to play in." This was speaking from his childhood memories, which consisted of the pound, Kotatsu's house, and a whole lot of pretty young ladies whose accquaintences he was QUITE eager to make. "It's great for all sorts of games, with all its nooks and crannies. Hide and seek, for instance." he said, smiling. He had always been very good at hide and seek, but mostly played it for practice in case he one day flirted with a girl who had a boyfriend that tended to get angry. He had been a VERY forward-thinking little boy.

"She's more of a loner... She barely has anything to do with anyone else," Shadow sighed. "Kali has managed to bring her here a couple of times, but even then she just sits in a corner and glares at everyone..." Completely oblivious as to any of the reasons why Comet might have wanted or needed to get good at the game, she continued, "If she played hide and seek she'd volenteer to be it, and then never look for anyone else... A pity too, it certainly was a lovely game."

Noticing that the younger cat looked like she was getting tired but trying not to show it when she yawned, Shadow smiled faintly to herself. "Why don't we find a place to sit down for a while? Standing in a hallway might not be the best place to be having a long conversation," She murmered, already looking around to see if she can recognize anyplace that they might go.

Comet looked sympathetic. "A shame she isn't more personable, but I suppose if it makes her happy..." He had flirted with girls like that. Sometimes they were just acting cold but usually it was a lost cause and waste of time. It was still hard to believe Shadow could have a kid that acted like that. Of course, he had pulled the hide and seek trick sometimes when people were annoying him, too... He'd just pretend he hadn't. Yeah. If he admitted to it it'd probably horrify Shadow. She was a polite young lady, after all. Comet nodded. "Of course we can sit down. There might be a bench outside." he suggested.

Deidre shook her head. She was too sleepy... "You can sit, but I'm going home, okay? I wanna go to sleep..." She waved to Shadow. "Bye Dad, Bye Shadow. Goodnight!"
