My ballet teacher only corrects and hardly ever compliments, but last thursday I had a substitute and she gave ME a compliment! We were doing some kind of attitude thingy on pointe and she just walks over to me and says "wow! good balance!" I was so shocked I almost lost my balance xd but that made me feel so good, I was smiling for the rest of the lesson! Wow!

Just had to share that with ya.. wink

Thats cool, but it doesn't nessecarily mean your teacher doesn't like you...they only want you to improve your dance by correcting you. Corrections should be taken as a compliment.

haha, nice. I need an instructor to correct me. I have plenty of... "habbits" in dance, and i need people to constantly point them out or I'll keep doing them.

Same...a lot of people say that they don't like my studio because the teachers don't give many individual corrections, but I don't think that is valid. My teachers give there corrections to the whole class between combinations so that everyone can benifit from them. Still, I have developed a few bad habits that are hard to break...

i know what you guys mean about corrections. i have one teacher that never gives me any corrections. and then there is another that corrects me all the time and then there is one that doesn't even call me by my name, i rarely get corrections from her. i know that corrections are supposed to be a gift, but you have to get them from all your teachers to really take them as a gift.

That's really great! My dance teacher always says that if she sees a lot of potential, she'll be more prone to correct rather than compliment. So, I'm happy for you that she tries to correct you. ^.^ And it probably is a good thing that someone you don't know complimented you and your teacher corrects you... That means you're a good dancer! Go you! Yeah that didn't make a whole lot of sense... I'm tired. xd

I know a correction should be taken as a compliment, but when you achieve the correct thing they pointed, they should tell you a compliment like: 'that's better' or 'you did it'.
Isn't it? neutral

yep, just like what everyone else has said, a correction is a good thing, because it means that your teacher has been watching you and noticed that you were doing something wrong! biggrin Compliments are good things too, because it reconizes that you are doing something right! I usally get a lot of compliment when we balence in sur le cu-de-pied, I am really good at holding my balence in that position!
