Me and My sister, lived together all of our lives, through foster care, and moving alot. Well A year ago our family moved from Trenton New Jersey, To Tennessee, Well my sister decided to stay in NJ. Me and my sister (cassie) talk everyday, and more then once. Well today she called me and she told me that she got robbed and raped today. I dont know what to do. Im not in NJ soo I cant be there to hug her and help her though this. She is now scared to walk on the streets, like go to a store, or the libary, or any where of that mattter. Ive been trying to tell her that she needs to move out of NJ or just out of trenton. If any of you guys know or been to NJ, Trenton isnt a great place to live. I want to be there for her but i dont know how.
-Help please- -ERI-

That's a lo t of peoples worst fears. Tell her that she is lucky that she is ok. Cause i'm sure you know some of those bad people don't like to leave their victims alive. But any where you go there are bad people like that. Even in the most unexpected places. Tell her to always walk with someone, stay out in the open. Takes precautions, learn some tai kwon do, it does help in some situations.

It is true that there are alot of bad peaple out there who do horrible things like that, but the worst thing peaple can do is to be afraid of these peaple. Its a good idea to keep yourself safe by carrying small arms (like pepper spray), to be trained in defence (martial arts) or to never walk alone (befriend big peaple). if you let the event cause so much fear then bad peaple have succed in not only hurting your sister but you as well

There's not a lot you can do, especially in your situation. Maybe you can buy her a rape alarm and send it to her, with a note saying something simple, like "Stay safe, I love you." Just to show that you're thinking of her, and that you don't want it to happen again.

Maybe you can find outlets for her online where she can go and get help. To other people this has happened to so she doesnt feel alone. Maybe you can also find a rape crisis center in her area she can go to and talk with a professional to over come her aniexties.

If you are going to look into small arms like pepper spray, amke sure what is legal to carry around in your state first. My g/f ddint know it was illegal , heck she bought it at a gas station! She was arrested and actually had to go to court over it! Just for having it on her! So becareful about that sort of thing ok. confused

It is a tradgic thing that happened to your sister. The best you can likely do is to encourage her and support her. Perhaps even suggest her carrying mace? Or maybe something of which she could use to her advantage in the rare event that she is assaulted or attacked again? Otherwise to tell her you love her and are there for her should she need a shoulder to lean on should surely make her day.

If there's any means for you to go visit her, then try to do that. Rape survivors often repress their feelings (usually guilt) and need support in order to deal with them. While I've never been victim to rape, I offer my support to you and your sister.
