What was the exact conversation we're debating over again (I'm sure someone must have posted said convo before, and I have a weird feeling that there's been some debating in circles going on)? I bring this up all the time, but the meaning could depend on wording.
If they said that the solar system would be doomed, maybe that refers to the fact that if Cell wasn't stopped then, his destruction would continue, and doom everybody.
Edit: Could we please steer clear of the "core disrupter" argument? It's going to bring nothing but trouble.

The `Reaper Man` rikeen90 The `Reaper Man` I'd like to put on the table that Cell really meant he'd destroy the sun with his Kamehameha wave and thus destroy the solar system either when the star went supernova or when it's planets went flying into space after the sudden loss of gravity and not that he meant he could wipe it out with a huge wave of Ki. Thank you Akira Toriyama; I'm glad you could enlighten us and tell us exactly what you mean. Next time, don't make it so ambiguous... stare Now, to be a tad more serious...proof? I am interested to see you provide a scrap of cannonical evidence to back up your claim. Seeing as until Buu blew up the Earth everyone else (Freeza) blew up planets with a core disruptor and no other way was ever shown in the series. And name me one instance a blast larger then a planet (which would be necessary to destroy a solar system in one go) has ever been seen in DBZ?
Quick answer to your question.....it's fricking ambiguous damn it! I'm trying to give a reasonable explanation |

Vegeta has never been shown to have destroyed a planet. That bit with Arlia was filler and never happened in the manga.
And the core disruptor holds because that's the only canonical evidence of a DBZ character destroying a planet prior-Buu. So you can piss and moan that it weakens the characters over all, but it's the only canon evidence and you have to deal with that.

Do you think the animaters just go crazy with whatever? No. It is approved by Akira Toriyama as they would need his permission to add new things.

While Reaper is 100% correct about filler - it makes the anime break canon more than once[/don'tstart] - Vegeta does indeed have the ability to destroy a planet. The means by which he does that is up for debate, but his Garlic Gun has the capability to destroy Earth in some form or fashion. He says this as he's charging it, telling Son that he'll either be killed by the Garlic Gun or watch Earth blow up... =9

One of those two was a core disruptor, the other one could have been but it was meant for a planet ten times Earth's size so we'll never know.

Deity wasn't adding to a dispute...he was pointing out that Vegeta could indeed destroy a planet, in case you were implying that he could not... . =;

Frezzer actualy intended to just destroy the planet outright, but acording to Goku he held back to much because he was affraid of the explosion, and just turned the core into a time-bomb instead.

I just look back on Broly fight with Future Trunks and the others. Future Trunks was not in his first form. He was in the Inhanced strangth form wen he was fighting Broly, its also safe to say that all the others could have easly been in there 2nd powerd up forms from the cell games.
Anyhow 'Krillin has the power to "Blow Up Earth." Think about it The old man took out the moon with one attack. Krillin is over 10x more powerful than the old man, and has the same attack. SO Its safe to say, lesser DBZ people can all Blow up planits if they want to.

Although I agree with the above statements (to some extent), I would like to point out that the Earth is about 80 times more massive than the moon. (It has 80x the mass.) Earth is the most dense planet in the solar system, and the metallic core makes this so.
