Does anyone here know of some really good meditation techniques?
It seems like the only time that I am ever good at meditating is when someone is sitting there with me, walking me through it.
It just seems like my brain is always on and running at full capacity and I just need a break. sweatdrop It's hindering my abilities to scry- not to mention falling asleep at night to meet my totem animal(s)... >.>
I'd really appreciate it if you have anything at all! 3nodding

Sometimes your brain is the world's biggest pain in the gluteous maximus. xd
I'll try and help..
Try having some soft music in the background, and hone in on it. Let it carry you away. The best type for this music is 'Fae', 'Celtic' and 'New Age'. I would recommend the album Twilight by Woodland, Garlands by the Coctrea Twins, Dead Can Dance and some tracks from Lord of the Rings. Try not to have anything scary - listen to it before hand. Honestly, in the dark, with your eyes shut and then a random boom in the music scares the heck out of me.. sweatdrop
Another method, which I use for getting to sleep is to imagine your mind as this giant blackboard. (Bear with me!) Write up any thoughts you have, until the black board gets full and then rub it off. (Writing up 'this' doesn't count. xd )
What else? Try and have a story to go along with your meditation. One of my best experiences I had was when I communed with Bast. I just.. firmly thought about what I was going to do, and got pulled along to these gates. Yes - literally pulled, like a claw (^^) had hooked into my astral form.
Anyway, I'm meant to be helping! In your meditation, arrive at some gates and scrutinise them. What colour are they? Are they spiked? Are they open? What are they made of, and what lies behind? Is there a path afterwards? Walk through them - is there anything lying on the ground, like pawprints, or a leaf? Continue up the path. Is there someone there? Who? A deity? ((whoo, lots of questions: but in order to concentrate on your meditation and not on your thoughts you have to ask 'em.))
When I did this, I met up with Bast. ^^ She was absolutley beautiful. When I plonked down into my real body, immediatley Pickle came in with a mouse. Co-incidence? I think not. This technique of meditation really works, and will help you become more succesful in future ones.

The story goes however my mind writes it. How do I know if that's the right way? I could always write it up differently.
And I'm not sure what you cat bringing home a mouse has to do with meditation. sweatdrop
I'm so deprived. rofl

OOoh, haven't tried this method yet, thankee =] You said you thought of what you were going to do and got hooked to these gates...
What if I firmly thought of what I was going to do, but nothing happens? X_X And is it always gates every single time?

xd I feel knowledgeable!
Melissa: seeing as I just met with Bast for the first time to form a friendship, a gift from one of the current cats residing with me is a little creepy.. Then again, it could just be me forming a wrong connection. ^^;
There is no 'right' way for meditation: it's different for every person, in my opinion. Don't worry if you get it 'wrong'. whee You'll find out what your unique version of right meditation is after experimenting, and no other way.
Yin, you're welcome. ^^ It may not be gates every single time, that's just the way I wrote the story. If nothing happens the first time: try, try and try again! Practice makes perfect. 3nodding Just try and stay relaxed and focused. If it doesn't work, just give it some time and I'm sure it will. smile

But I can do it wrong. How do I know if I'm "meditating" and not just making up some story in my head?
;-;
I don't like failing. xP

I've tried meditation once or twice. I was...in a way, taught to focus on relaxing all of your body. With a deep breath, focus on the energy in your head and dispell most of it, leaving you in a relaxed state. Do the same with the rest of your body, slowly, and peace by peace. If done properly, it should take you into autowave sleep patterns, but you won't be asleep.
It doesn't always work for me, but it is a great way to relax before bed. whee
