Hmm, I liked it. I'll just offer my own observations:

What does he like more? Chemistry or writing? Does he have his writing as a hobby, and chemistry is his job? Or does he work as a chemist so he can support himself and write?

Were his parents more interested in their work than him? Is that why he's so introverted?

Does he get so cought up in his work and writing he forgets other things like clean clothes, eating, or even sleeping? Or does he have a handle on it, and can divorce himself from his work when he wants to?

As far as finding everything funny, what exactly does he do in response to a bad situation? Does he laugh inside, but not show it for fear of offending someone, or does he actually laugh, or even go so far as to make a joke about it to others? I ask because I get through most situations through humor. I love dark humor. But I usually don't tell other people, because I know they might no feel the same way.

This is just a thought, but it's what I first thought of when I read how he got on the island. FF had talked about Moreau offering 'special treatment', which would mean he would choose to take it, and find out later what exactly that decision meant. What if he was badly burned, and while still unconcious, taken to the island? They could tell him that he wouldn't have lasted more than a couple months without the serum; the first change fixing a lot of the calcium problems. Then he'd feel grateful for them saving his life, but angry that he was kidnapped. Or he might not be angry at all, just happy that they saved him. (I personally think the island could use some more grateful islanders. Anyway, just my thoughts.
