Has anyone taken the Birthright Israel trip? How was your experience? Where did you visit?
Is anyone planning on going? When? And what kind of trip are you interested taking, Orthodox, Reform, etc.?
Sorry if this thread was already made but I looked through all the topics and didn't see anything about this.

Not to sound mean or anything... but I don't like the Birthrighters. The few times I ran into them over the summer they were rude and down right obnoxious.
But then again I'm biased, I went with Young Judea. I was just a tad bit older than they usually take, but it still worked out OK.

You were probably talking to the American Birthrighters (Sorry, I'm Canadian and I have a huge bias against Americans). I'm going on the Canadian one. I guess it's a little different.
What's the difference with the Young Judea one?

I was thinking of doing the birthright trips. One of my best friends went, and she said it was well worth the experience.

I'm not eligible for Birthright. I've been to Israel... Twice. Once with the whole family for Pesach when I was ten, and just this October with just my Grandma. If you can go for Pesach, you should, because it's an amazing experience. Only one day of Yom Tov, first of all, which makes life easier, and for the five days of Chol Ha'Moed you can eat out. Most of the restuarants Kasher themselves before Pesach. The McDonalds even have kosher l'Pesach buns for the burgers, and it's almost as good as the real thing. I might go on USY Pilgramage next summer, which will be the summer before my senior year of high school. Unless I'm a junior counselor at camp.

What's the difference with the Young Judea one? Young Judea goes for 5 and a half weeks and stays in youth hostels. Lots of history tours and hikes, travelling the country, that sort of thing. Really fun. It's for high school students, though they sometimes make exceptions and let recent graduates like myself go. I was 17 when I signed up for it, so they said it was OK. And yeah, it was the American Birthrighters... at least I think they were American. Sounded American, but ya never know.

My cousin's going on that in a week- every cousin of mine has been and said it was the best experience of their life. :O My former chapter president went last summer and had an amazing time. The only question is how the camp program changes, because they might be adding an extra year in there where you travel or something? In which case I'd probably just go back.
