Mm, people in the CG may know what I'm talking about; Window-kun made a topic about it, a guild made specifically for Captains to be able to help each other with things like free guild services and such.

So, since I'm eager for the idea and think it'd be kinda' fun to sorta' work on while Window-kun is busy with other stuff (you know how it is whee ), I'm making this thread. Just... post ideas, thoughts on things already posted, etc..

Right now it's late, and I'm probably going to write this all out funny like I usually do when sleep-deprived, but that's OK. I'll just write down the bare basics of my notes and then embellish them or such-like tomorrow.

Some good services to offer would be the archaic art of... Sticky Making! =D

I've seen some stickies out there just just make me blush. Important things go into the creation of stickies.

You need great content, essentially.
You must make it fun to read, and this includes literacy along with simplicity.
You should make it... purtee.. With header images, or other such primpers, etc.
And last of all... Umm. I didn't really have a conclusion, but my argument sounds nice? No?

Also something I recently found that I might need... Desperately. xP

A guild babysitting service. =O

Real Life is finally beginning to catch up with and I've been desperately looking for one who can take up the guild when I'm gone and basically do all the work that I do.

This would probably be a paid service counting the number of days babysitted, and the amount of work done.

Like, I need to be in my guild right now, because I have to help plan our masquerade, but I also need to get A's in school. T___T

I think this is a fantastic idea!! I love projects like this, though I myself can never come through with them ^^; . However, as long as there's at least one other person there that works and is there doing whatever project, I tend to be able to stick around for a loonnnggg time, though I don't do much (I never know what to do or how I can help sweatdrop ).

Anyway, ideas...

Yeah, with stickies, I always see some extremely badly-made stickies, homepages, etc. and I just want to... rewrite it all and fix it for them!!! I'd definitely do it for free, it would be a crime on my part to charge for something like that; my fingers just itch to improve things when I can, whether it be a picture, story, or sticky! Besides, I kinda' enjoy that sort of stuff.

I like organization, I like cleaning things up and polishing them off, I like having things perfect at the beginning. It all messes up in the end, but whatever >.< . It's why I'm taking sooo long on setting up my own guild; I'm writing up allll the stickies, premade threads, popular/common threads, extra things, FAQ, etc. and it's taking forever. But I'm almost done ^^.

There are also possible 'services' that aren't really shop-like services or whatnot, but more slightly casual such as avatar rate threads. A person could say that they do casual rates of guilds and hit on glaring points in a guild that make them better or good; like your idea, Window-kun, but much more simplified for people who just need a quick rate to help them with ideas or a general picture.

When I go into the typical 'dying guild' that's on it's last legs, I can see things that could improve it easily. Better graphics, a bit more organization, better grammar and spelling, a sticky that actually explains more of what the guild is all about and how to find things and what to post, better ideas for subforums or whatever.

That's something that should be free and just something that people would do to help each other and maybe kill some time. How many people do you see charging for avatar rates? I don't and I spend from five to ten minutes examining one's avatar and typing out any thoughts or comments on them.

I don't really charge for stuff; I find it ridiculous the things that people charge for though, when I browse the minishops and find some really bad quality banners or wishlists or whatever. Pisses me off because I could make better banners and I barely barely know how to work around the basics of MS Paint! Yah, angry rant over... ^^; .

Oh; also, while banners in minishops are all well and good, there's also an idea for guild-specialized graphics. It's hard for me to think of good ideas for a guild banner that's as small as the size that they give us.

You know, graphics for the homepage, guild banner, stickies, contests, etc. following a certain theme or whatever. I think that would be extremely helpful, and very guild-directed, yah?

And then a 'service', a casual service that should cost NOTHING that helps or aids people with ideas or thoughts on things like what a guild's mascot or theme colors or whatever should be, or to help brainstorm for the less creative.

Mm, I'll just keep brainstorming, yah? I really like this idea, I hope it's succesful ^_^ !!

If anyone feels like doing tedious, long work, they could offer to set up a guild mule for a guild. Y'know, have all the member's friendslisted on an account, etc, and hand it over to the captain of the guild. Guild-wide PMs (not to be confused with Guild-wide PMS), are neat for activity.

[...]

Oh, I got another idea recently with the help from a certain incident that happened in a guild I'm in; a person that would act as a 'n00b' in the guild to test the moderators and/or members and how they would react towards it. They could have a mule set up to extremely realistic and be able to post like an actual n00b without overdoing it, and perhaps wavering between being an outright jerk and hiding that with certain 'civil' sentences, etc.. Stuff like that.

A guild could do it themselves, but a more realistic one that knows how to post like a realistic n00b might be much more effective in that people won't think that they're just some idiot mule that's there to be stupid and then go away. And it'll probably have much less chance of being reported, as total ******** asses get reported quickly while sly, sneaky asses would only get banned from a guild at most.

I don't know if this would be free or not. I mean, frankly, I think doing something like this would be rather fun and something just to do when someone asks, which shouldn't be too much. And it's not like they'd have to do it on command, they could probably let it wait a few days if they'd like, etc.. However, if people absolutely insist on charge for this sort of thing, I'd say... maybe 100g-1000g? Depending on the person, I guess.

EDIT: Another idea, someone who could set up good advertizement threads for both the CG and Registered guilds forum(I think that's what it's called). And maybe... I dunno', bumping service for the ad threads. Advertizement tends to be a major key in getting members in, and lots of people do it badly. This might help.

Yeah you've seen the profile quit. But wouldn't it be also good if there was a Guild quilt? It would get the word out about other guilds and would also bee a good listing for all the guilds as well.

It's just an idea. Was wondering if I decided to make this happen, if I would have any support :3

OK, to post my thoughts... ideas... scribbles while I was at my mom's friend's house.

First, possible subforums? I'm thinking:
  • Guild Rating
For people wanting a rate, people who rate themselves, etc. things related to guilds.
  • Guild Services
Services related to guilds posted here to find easily.
  • Tutorials/Guides
A place to post all the tutorials, guides, FAQs, and other long-winded stands-for-itself articles and the like.
And main forum would be used for things like asking/answering questions, giving advice and such.

Now, to get into more detail.

Things that'll probably fit under Guild Rating:
Rating monetary value of a guild.
Rating a guild's homepage; aesthetic quality, information, etc..
Rating a guild as a whole.
Rating the general organization/navigation of a guild.
Rating the stickies; how effectively they are used, their structure, info., etc.
Rating the community; what type of people, general activity, their respect for Crew, etc..
Rating Crew; how noticeable they are, friendly, effective, fair they seem, etc..

Things that'll probably fit under Guild Services:
Guild Banners and other graphics/art.
Acting as a 'n00b' to test a guild's crew.
Being active/helpful for a week to help stir the guild/give feedback.
Be Crew for a while to help clean or smooth things.
Act as guild 'babysitter' when a Captain is out on vacation.
Create a guild mule for a guild.
Make a guild's stickies for them.
Make up the homepage for a guild.
Make the AD thread for a guild.
Make a 'n00b' account for the guild to use personally.

Things that'll probably fit under Tutorials/Guides:
Links to basic guild/captain/crew guides/FAQs/etc..
Tutorials/guides for Captaining practices.
Tutorials/guides for bettering guilds.
Tutorials/guides for bettering an aspect of a guild.
Tutorials/guides for helping the community/activity of the guild.
Tutorials/guides for making a simple, basic banner.
Tutorials/guides for making organised, neat stickies.
Tutorials/guides for anything else related to guilds!

Things that could go in the main forum:
Q/A type threads to help with something in particular/general.
Asking for advice for something.
Guild asking for affiliation?
Guild asking for another guilds' cooperation for an event?

Eh, that's about what I've got scribbled down in the rough anyway... wait for me in the morning maybe?

Now, to expand a bit more on some of this...

Rating:
With rate threads, it's pretty much free-play, where users think of what they believe they're good at judging and knowing about. It should be completely FREE unless it gets very in-depth and is up in a bit of a professional level. Like Window-kun's service, except he does his for free.

Services:
Graphics would probably work like normal shops, unless it's just for simple banners, for the typical 200x40 type thing. I could probably easily do a free service making very simple, basic banners with people's choice of basic colors, choice for border, text, text color, font style, and adding of pics that they have.

The idea of someone acting as a 'n00b' in someone's guild should be free for simple fixes; it's a fun thing to do, it's not that much of a 'chore' unless you take it more seriously. Upon the chance that you do take it more seriously, and make it a more professional and very good service thing going on, then, well, it'd be your choice how much you charge.

Having one active member to post interesting threads every day, reply to almost anything with some interest, make some suggestions as a mere member, and even enter or start a contest for an amount of time might be able to do wonders for the activity of a guild. It might be the jumpstart that they need. Whether it be a mere week of activity or a whole month, or until the guild picks itself up would be up to the person that acts as the 'new active member'. I'd say this'd be a FREE service; yeah, I'm sure the members would appreciate that their new, temporary friend was just there to get some extra cash on the side stare . But they could always be open to thank-you gifts and tips. And people who do this would only do it for guilds that they think they can actually help.

Sometimes things get really messy, and you're not sure what to do. Or things have just been getting busier, but you don't know anyone well enough yet that you think can be a permanent Cew member. Or something along those lines. There could probably be reliable, responsible outside parties that wouldn't mind to act as a temporary hired hand for until you get your own Crew or things smooth over or whatever. This however requires a certain level of trust and good reputation and background/history.

With advertising. Having a banner in your own signature is all well and good. However, when you're mostly only posting in your own guild or only go to other guilds or such to post and talk, not too many people will see it. How about hire some people who are active in the Gaia forums or larger guilds to don your ads/banners in your signature for a while? I think this is something that can be paid for by the amount of posts a person makes per day. Or something like that. Small fee, probably.

A 'babysitter' type person, who'll take care of a guild while the captain/crew is mostly away; only keeps things in order, like TOS violations and the like. Shouldn't be paid, because you should only do this to people that you fully trust, respect, and find totally responsible and fair.

Guild mules are handy things. But they can be a bit of work to create and such; especially when you're trying to make a nice guild mule. There's things all the way from friends listing all members (for mass PMs) to making sure that it doesn't look too ridiculously dorky. There's things like making good use of the signature, explaining it's uses in it's profile, even naming it effectivally, etc.. I guess fee would depend on the quality of the guild mule; though really, I personally don't think there should be any fee at all. Well... with me, I'd probably ask for something like 1k or something to give the mule a cheap not-starter outfit; I hate naked mules xd .

You know, lots of guilds have crappy stickies and announcements, no offense. The titles are all crowded with text, making my eyes want to just skip over them, or they forget a sticky they could add, or forget info or have too little info. Or they have many typoes and organise their info. strangely. Well, there could be people who would make or edit/spell-check/etc.. stickies for people. I don't think this should be paid for, except maybe if they're making all the stickies for them from scratch with just their basic information.

Now, some people just suck at making nice homepages and the like. Their homepages are just a small amount of text, which may have typoes, and in strange sizes or colors that make them bad-like. There could be people who say they'd be willing to make a basic, nice homepage for them until they can make a nice, more personalized one themselves.

Now, this job here is a bit icky, it takes energy. Making an AD thread for the guild, with their info and stuff so that it's nice and informative and appealing. I don't have a problem with people charging for this; it's a large task, in my eyes... at least, if it's done well.

Now, if you (as custumer )don't want someone to act as a n00b for you, or if you (as worker) don't want to act out as a n00b yourself, there's always the option of making a n00b account for someone. To make it realistic, so it doesn't seem like just some guy trying to stir trouble. Like posting in the welcome forum in Gaia for instance, making up a basic profile, making posts in the gaia forums and such to match the character, etc.. Then the captain can do as s/he pleases with it, and the n00b-maker doesn't have to take the time to act out as a n00b for real in the guild.

Tutorials/Guides:
Links to basic guild/captain/crew guides/FAQs/etc.. Actually, the homepage of the guild pretty much covers that.

Now, there can be tutorials for many, many, many things concerning guilds. It can be anything from guilds in general to advertising to making nice events to just making a simple banner for a guild. It's like guild rating; people will write tutorials on what they think they'd be good at, and they're posted here to help others.

Main forum:
Instead of people asking about the same things in their own threads, there could be people who know well certain aspects of things like TOS, guild success, captaining, etc. that can make their own threads for people to ask them questions or advice.

The main forum can also be used to ask advice for things that they couldn't find answers to in other places, or for lots of advice from many different sources.

Guilds asking for affiliation with other guilds and stuff like that should also be in the main forum.

There's also guilds that would like to hook up with another guild to try to hold an interesting event; they could ask about stuff like that for other guilds to come to them and stuff.

OK DONE. Well, writing down a bit more about stuff anyway...

Added quotes to the original people who posted many of the ideas! <3

Now, here's a little thing... like a 'pretend' sorta' thing here... you know how in the CG, the same exact questions are always asked over and over? Like... 'how do I make my guild more active', 'my guild is dead', 'my crew is being crappy/rude/rebellious' etc.. There could be 'pretend threads', where it's basically like... 'Say someone's asking advice on activity in their guild; what advice would you give them?'. You know? Because lots of different people have different experiences and thoughts.

I've noticed that I've seen some interesting, unique ideas by some random Captains in one thread, and then a repeat thread in a few days that comes up, where that idea isn't posted there because the Captain isn't particularly a regular. You know?
