I'm in my 25th week of my second pregnancy, and I'm starting to get concerned about my heartburn. I don't remember having a heartburn problem with my son until the last month or so. This time, I seem to have it on a semi-constant basis already. So at this point, I'm beginning to worry that maybe I'm farther along than any of us thought. I know my mother menstruated through her first trimester during at least one pregnancy, so it's a legitimate concern. I'm also wheezy and short of breath now (again, not something I remember until the last month or so with my first child). It's not because of excess weight gain either - I'm barely above my starting weight, thanks to massive morning sickness that will not die (I only vomit once a month now) plus a recent period of severe stress during which I slept little and ate less.

So I guess what I'm asking is, how much did your symptoms vary from pregnancy to pregnancy? Is it possible I'm just going to be miserable for a bit longer with this one, or should I start addressing the announcement envelopes now? The midwives keep pushing my due date back because they say the baby's tiny, but they tried that with my first baby too and he came ten days before my original due date - I married into a family of very small people.

I know, of course, that this is something to talk with my midwife about (on Monday at 11am), but I'd feel a lot better just being able to compare notes with other people. Some reassurance wouldn't come amiss either. And, of course, helpful tips for alleviating heartburn. I avoid OTC stuff like the plague, so thanks but no thanks to Tums, Pepcid, etc.

My 2 pregnancies have been NIGHT AND DAY. Completely and totally different. Im only 23 weeks and Im already having heartburn. Not on a regular basis, but more often than with my daughter.
I have a question, did they do your level 2 u/s and verify your due date at that time? I would go by that if it were me.

I know that alot of symptoms that didnt show up til later are showing up earlier this time around. My belly and sides hurt alot already at night like I dont have much room to grow, but Ive got a loooooooong ways to go. My round ligaments hurt worse this time from getting stretched faster and just general discomforts are happening earlier.

And Im sorry I dont have any natural remedies for heartburn. Never looked into them. I know for me Rolaids soft chews have been AWESOME this time around. And they taste so good!! I was eating nacho's with salsa the other night which caused major heartburn and a few of those chews cleared it all up!!

Good luck finding ways to alleviate yours though!! Sorry to hear its so bad this time around!! sad

Both of my pregnancies were different. Some things were similar; for example with my first pregnancy I had morning sickness until about 20 weeks. With my second one I had Hyperemesis Gravidum and it wasn't until about 20 weeks that I was able to get off the nausea meds (meds were the best of my options). I too avoided meds when I could, so there were a lot of things that I just put up with. If you don't want the OTC stuff I don't know what else to suggest but to put up with the heartburn. I wish I had better news.
Best wishes to you, and I'm glad to hear that you're going to talk to your midwife. 3nodding

Well, basically the advice was, "it's your second baby, so everything starts earlier." Reassuring, especially as an explanation for why it feels like my pubic symphisis (crotch, for those who didn't study anatomy) is going to split open every time I stand up. The annoying thing about my heartburn is that it usually shows up during the day for no particular reason, like while I'm reading a magazine in the midafternoon. Mostly I just drink another huge glass of water (I have 20-oz glasses) and hope it goes away soon. The bonus news is that the midwife agreed that I might well have a 4-hour labor this time. Versus my 25+-hour labor last time. (There was some scarring to break up, and once that was taken care of I had my son in 5 hours.)

Oh yes, Pinkee, they did that, and came up with November 29th. I calculate November 23rd. With my son, they pushed my due date to mid/late-August after my level 2 u/s. My calculations had him at August 10th. I went into labor the morning of July 31st. So yeah, maybe with normal-size babies they're more accurate, but I've pencilled in a tentative delivery date for myself on November 9th. I will giggle maniacally if I turn out to be correct. (Which probably means my water will break on someone's living room couch during Thanksgiving dinner. rolleyes )
