It's been oh so long! This guild, how i've drifted from you so. D:!

Wow... I wonder if anyone remembers me. @___@
I think I should brush up on the rules... How do I know if i'm not breaking one now! D:!!!

So ... I've been listening to a lot of Opera lately. No, not Phantom of the Opera-- just. All around Opera. And I was wondering if anyone had basically any suggestions? To tell you the truth i've only heard it through anime's such as Elfen Lied, and Blood+... Which is why I have only two songs or so outside of Phantom of the Opera.

Oh, and mods if this breaks any rules or anything i'm sorry! Although this guild only has four rules or so it still seems very enforced outside of them. e__e; Repeat thread? I hope not... Not spaming is so very awkward.

It's fine Kally. I'm just wondering if we need to move it to the Wine Celler or not.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Opera where instead of just dying, everyone must sing about it for ten minutes. biggrin

What have you listened to? A few that I like are (of course) Faust, Madama Butterfly, and Don Giovanni.

If you want to explore more titles, then I can suggest looking here:

~Angels never came down~

I've heard Aida (opera or musical) was good. Of course, so is Carmen, which may be the most well-known opera.

If you like Phantom, Mozart and Gounod are two of the best composers to start with, since they're the ones mentioned/used most often in various adaptions in addition to being simply juuaanderful.

Mozart's Don Giovanni is fabulous (and hilarious xd ), and it's based on the legend of Don Juan.
Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute), also by Mozart, is one of the most famous operas in the world and it's quite a wonderful little fantasy. If nothing else, download a version of "Der Hölle Rache," the Queen of the Night aria, since it's quite amazing.
Gounod's Faust is absolutely necessary, of course. Beautiful music AND Phantom symbolism, since it's the part of Marguerite in Faust that Christine is performing when she's taken off the stage. More specifically, the end trio, which is one of my favorite pieces ever.
Romeo et Juliet by Gounod is a classic as well. Not one of my favorites, but there's some nice music.
Otello (There's one by Verdi and Rossini, but I prefer the Verdi one) is a must as well. Based on the Shakespeare play about a man who's tricked into believing his wife is unfaithful and subsequently murders her. Christine and Erik are singing from this opera when she first unmasks him in Leroux.

And just off the top of my head there's Tosca, Fidelio, The Flying Dutchman, La Traviata, La Boheme (what Rent was based on), Eugene Onegin, Salome, Un ballo in maschera, and Aida. Lots of opera fun!

Our local MAC has 6+ operas per year. I've gotten to be in a few.

We have season tickets...what's coming up?
Don Giovanni (Mozart)
Manon (Massenet)
Hansel and Gretel (Humberdinck) I was in this some years ago.
Arlecchino (Busoni)
Too Many Sopranos (Penhorwood)
Arabella (Strauss)
Madama Butterfly (Puccini)

Elanchana

I've never seen any operas, but I just downloaded the Berlin Philharmonic's version of Puccini's 'La Boheme' from iTunes, and I <3 it. (Of course, it stemmed from my obsession with RENT.)

I love Don Giovanni. I went to see it and it was awesome, especially the dinner scene.
Le nozze de Figaro is beautiful. I am going to see in May biggrin
Luisa Miller by Verdi is obscure but very powerful.
Those are my favorites
