The dark-furred Feli sat on the porch of the Feli House, her tail swaying and the green embers above her ears dancing playfully. Bright pink eyes seemed to pop out mysteriously from the otherwise shadow-like figure. Whisper was, for the first time in quite a while, actually enjoying the weather. The great summer heat wave that had been plaguing the area had passed, and in exchange today brought a heavy storm upon the household. Whisper sat quietly under the roof, listening to the heavy pitter-patter of raindrops all around her. The dark grey sky clouded most hints of sunlight, the few rays appearing and disappearing between the clouds. The solemn Feli let out a sigh and closed her eyes, enjoying her peaceful solitude.

“Huu…” exhaled the bright, rainbow-colored bundle to Whisper’s right. Well, alright, it was almost solitude. Indeed, Whisper had been granted the honor of babysitting the almost painfully colorful Feli-to-be. It was special, no doubt about that. Whenever Whisper emitted a somewhat strong emotion the bundle seemed to mimic with one weird noise or another. Quite honestly, the usually antisocial Feli didn’t mind the company, even though the bundle was quite a curious one. The bundle seemed to nudge itself and lean against Whisper oh-so-gently.

“You’re seeming a little gloomy for someone so… bright,” Whisper murmured. Of course, she received no response. “Just the rain, I suppose,” she continued to herself, Whisper’s bright eyes glancing toward the dark sky.

Trying new things was hardly common for one such as Malory, though odder things have happened.

Never before had the mauve Feli considered rain anything but a nuisance, persuaded heavily by the grumpy opinions of those it forced indoors. After weeks of chronic heat, however, even a creature as pathetic as Malory could find himself braving the rain in exchange for some of the lovely peace only the outdoors could offer.

He had just about reached his destination-- the meadow, of course-- when it suddenly dawned on him that rain wasn't so bad after all. Quite the contrary, it was... really, really nice. He had always enjoyed pools of water, but nothing quite matched the feel of a rain storm. The air was cool, though not too chilly, and the sound of the rain falling dominated every sound that was otherwise typical of the area... it was almost as though every creature was laying in silence, listening to the rain same as he was.

And thus was how Malory ended up spending no less than four hours laying alone in the meadow, feeling more peace than he ever had before. Were it not for a subtle chill slithering along his spine, he likely wouldn't have budged from his spot for several more hours. Sadly, though, all good things do eventually meet their end.

With no small amount of regret, the Feli lifted himself from the grass and headed back toward the Feli House. His pace was slow and his mind distracted, so much that he failed to notice he'd finally made it back, let alone that a familiar face was there to greet him. Pure luck made him look up and stop, preventing him from walking right into the female.

Happy Tofu

Whisper’s eyes met Malory’s, and she couldn’t help but let a small smile upon her face. In all honesty, the dark and socially awkward Feli was one of her greatest friends and it was always wonderful to see a familiar face. “Hey there, Mal,” Whisper greeted, her head nodding in a friendly manner as her tail continued to sway side to side.

“Fwee!” the bundle exclaimed. Whisper cocked an un amused eyebrow in it’s direction, obviously offended that it would mutate her feelings into such a repulsive noise.

“This is my bundle friend. I dunno it’s name yet, so I’m calling it Rainbow,” she introduced a little hesitantly. “Quite a noisy bugger,” she added quietly to herself. She turned up to Malory with a curious expression on her face. “So, what brings you out on this rainy day?”
