The Big a** Book of Crafts is my current favourite, because it's full of crafts (over 100) that I would love to have in my home. Plus, the guy is a little weird. One of the crafts is for a Baby Head Paper Weight, and the caption for it is "Your friends will think you're weird for making this, but that's ok."
I've seen dominknitrix, and it looks really interesting. Of course, the best beginner guides (imho) are the Stitchn'b***h books, and The Happy Hooker.
