zosh Does "bending" ruin the fretboard? No one has mentioned it and I've always wondered. And Les Claypool uses mostly fretless for a wider range of sound. It doesn't ruin it, just wears it out a teensy bit faster. I'm not really worried about it, I bend quite a bit when I goof around.

Slap on a fretless or upright sounds good, especially if you're going for a rockabilly/psychobilly style.
I don't know as much as I'd like about fretless basses, but could someone tell me about 'slap pallets'? I heard it used once when talking about playing slap on a fretless.

fretless basses can be good for slap or tapping or just playing regularly i mean honeslty listen to jerry was a racecar driver or tommy the cat by primus and you will see how good a fretless bass sounds since in both songs les is using a fretless six string bass but then its also made by carl thompson so that could be why it sounds sooooo good

[Jak Spicer] november of last year, I decided to buy an sx fretless j-bass, I've never played a fretless before and I figured "lol kool"- it wasnt, it ******** sounds horrible, not like my fender fretted- this one constantly pops and cracks and the tone is downright horrible. Anyone else own fretlesses? (and the reason for the popping and cracking is because I played slap on it, and apparently it couldnt take it). it wasn't in the fact that it was fretless. just the electronics in your particular bass must have been crap. I love fretless basses, Warwick's Corvette FL is practically impossible not to love. Maybe you should get your pickups checked out.

That's the one I have, but unfortunately I have to sell it simply because I need the money. Tis sad. And it sounds to me like his tone pot is cutting out, which is a problem I had with my Corvette. Get it checked out and it should sound a ton better.

Fretlesses have an awesome sound. I really want one, even though I probably couldn't play it very well. sweatdrop
