Alright, so some of you may have seen my post in the ED about this, I'm not sure. But I figured that I would post a similar one here, since most of us are Christian and.. well, I thought I'd get the best advice from fellow Christians. smile
Anyway! I'm going to give you some background information that, technically, you can skip over. I was baptised a Catholic, and when it came time for me to be confirmed, I wasn't, because I didn't feel comfortable in the Catholic church. Their views on many things are too conservative for me. At least, they have been in the churches that I have attended. (A good few.) I know that not all of them are so conservative, but from my experience.. I don't plan on going back. However, just because I wasn't confirmed doesn't mean I don't want to be religious. I want to find a good church that shares more of my personal beliefs, and isn't so conservative. A church that is more liberal, I suppose.
So what I am hoping you all can help me with, is by narrowing down the list since there are so many denominations! Someone had suggested the UCC, because they are very open to everyone and such. However, if there is anyone in this guild that belongs to a UCC church, I'd like some more information about them and such. There is also an Assembly of God near here, and they have been suggested to me.. mainly, I think, because I would love going to a church that is very musical. It would just be more exciting for me, and I would probably enjoy attending a church that obviously makes me excited. The Catholic churches I have gone to were always full of lectures; something I despise, which is probably partly why I don't like Catholic churches.) So any church with fun music would be a plus. Of course, having good morals and being liberal and open to things and people would be best. Also, I have recently researched a bit about the Presbyterian Church (USA) so.. yeah. Anyway!
I guess also what I am looking for is a church and/or denomination.. whichever you want to call it.. that is, I think, it's called New Age? That isn't stuck in the past, and is changing a bit with present times. I understand that for a lot of Christians, the bible is.. law? I don't think that is the right word, but I can't think of the correct word. In other words, it's just a guideline that they stick very closely to. I don't really wany that. Yes, having the bible as a guideline would obviously be a good thing, but how I see it is that it was written thousands of years ago. Only two really but.. still. So many things have changed since then, and to stick with the conservative view they had back then is not something I want to stick with. You know?
Thanks a lot, you guys! I'm sorry if I babbled a lot, and if I said things that are offensive. I'm a kind of new Christian in the sense that I am only now one out of my own free will. Pretty much everything I have learned up until this point in my life as been ignored. So I am sure I have mistaken some things and such, and I apologize for that, but please keep in mind that I am trying and want to become a faithful Christian.
Thanks. heart
