My Epiphone has the worst humbuker pickups. I don't know so much about the details, but the top pickup is so low from the strings, it doesn't work unless the amp's volume is turned up all the way, and the bottom is so close it makes it sound weird.

Change the height with a screw driver, that's all. It's pretty simple, just adjust them to your preference.

yea, the neck pickup should be raised, and lower your bridge pickup, till you find a suitable sound

DO as the first poster recommended. Small adjustments like this help ALOT, contrary to popular belief.
