It is true that some folks would rather go to the forums rather than become a member of a paid guild. There is a definite problem when the money doesn't mean anything anyway. I like the point about the application process being a good filter for people that may not fulfil certain standards as well. Did you folks have an opinion on hte guild name change at all?

The name right now is a fairly generic name, but considering that it definitely lets people know what the guild is about before having to read the description, it might be good to just leave it as it is. The more obscure the name, no matter how cool it sounds, might mislead people into thinking the guild is for one thing when it's really not.
I know we'd like people in the guild who can actually read the description and comprehend what this guild is for before clicking "Request to Join," but to be honest, we have to take into account that most people are hasty. Also, when looking up by interest in the "search guild" feature, some people are just looking at the names that come up. By searching for "writing," I assure you that you will find much more than just writing guilds. A lot of them are roleplaying and art guilds, as well. At that point, it comes down to looking at the names to determine if it's the guild for me. If I see a guild named "The Scarlet Feather," I'm not going to think of a quill and associate it with writing, for example. It sounds poetic, but it doesn't actually inform the casual viewer of the true meaning of the guild. "The Gaian Writers" is a fairly difficult name to confuse, on the other hand.
Needless to say, if we spruced up the guild name a bit, but kept it completely, unmistakably relevant to writing, I wouldn't mind. I just don't have any suggestions, currently.

The name seems fine to me. 3nodding
As for the price, a range of 50-150 seems fair to deter people who won't be very active (I pay gold, I want to be at least active enough to earn it back)and earn up some guild account for when they (finally) let the owners spend it on things to spruce up the guilds such as subforums and full homepages in front.
A public guild is never a good ideal for something literary. People WILL post on it just to be jerks and because they can, or n00bs will post the kinds of things they post in Writer's Forum. Keeping acceptance necessary to post will filter that out.
As for things like organization, I would suggest contests. The easy answer, but a very very sucessful one for encouraging guild activity.

I'm afraid that some of the more popular and long running threads might be getting lost in less important threads. Maybe we should make more of them into stickies so they stand out. Some suggested ones for this would be stuff like: words, the calendar, describe the avatar. Perhaps once a thread gets beyond a certain number of posts or something or the thread is something like the calendar or some other thread like that we could make it a sticky.

Perhaps we could even fix up some sort of voting system in which any member could nominate a thread to become a sticky and then a poll is set up in a designated thread for a week or two.

Parari~Flight~ 1. Changing the name 2. Gold 3. Public? 4. Organization 1. I think the name's fine. Short, sweet, and to the point. 2. Maybe a 10-20 gold entry fee, or you can keep it free. Just don't make the price high, or people will be discouraged. 3. No, definitely not. Keep it private. 4. Um...I've got nothing on that one...sorry.

I recently changed the guild's category from general to interest based, but have since wondered if that was the right decision. Then, I realized I hadn't even seen what members thought so tell me your opinion on this.

1. Changing the name- It could stand to be a little more creative. I dunno an example, though, sorry. xp 2. Gold- Meh, keep it free. If it'll encourage writers to join. 3. Public? Sure, why not? We could use some more activity. 3nodding 4. Organization- we need more contests for gold, definitely.

1. Changing the name:- Maybe something a bit more catchy, e.g the Golden Quill or something
2. Gold:- Keep the price low, but maybe a price like 50g would be good sp as to keep active members
3. Public:- Keep it private. We don't want non-literary people
4. Organization:- Maybe a story writing competition or a 'post your stories' subforum. Because, well, we ARE writers

Wow... It's been a long time since I've been around here, hasn't it? I wonder if anyone still remembers me...
1. Changing the name- I agree that a catchier name could help attract people. I don't have any good ideas though... 2. Gold- I don't think adding a fee to join will help... It might even turn people off. 3. Public?- I'd prefer just recruiting members. However, that does take a lot of effort. I do agree with people about the risk of non-writers flooding in here... 4. Organization- I don't honestly know enough about the organization to recommend anything. Contests are a good idea, though. People will be active if there's something in it for them...

After reviewing the results of the last poll it has been decided that the guild will remain interest based. Thank you to everyone who voted!
Now is the time to vote on a new decision that needs made, though. It's time to decide Soul Tear's fate. *cue dramatic music* Allow me to set the scene for this question since I'm sure it's a bit confusing for some of you. Soul Tear is the original founder and owner of the guild, however, he disappeared ages ago and left Parari in charge and has never been heard from again. Parari opted to leave Soul Tear as a Mod out of respect to him being the founder, however, it is my opinion that it may be a hindrance to have him listed as a Mod if new members or prospective members want to ask something before joining (not that it's ever happened). So, vice captain, mod, regular member, or something else in mind. The decision is yours.

You could demote him to member, then promote him again if and when he comes back. It's practical, but then again, it could also be insulting... I don't know. I don't think I really ever knew Soul Tear.

I am sort of back after a year's break... so maybe ST will eventually return to Gaia. But remember that this is an interest-based guild so it is probably best to focus on our resources as a community of writers. In recent times I have been hanging out at Facebook where I know quite a few of the authors there. They always have something useful to say about the craft, the magical way that this language can be used to weave a tale. Encouraging members to share their thoughts, their feelings and their experiences is that first step of rebuilding this guild.
Feel free to PM me if you're interested in what I am up to. I will try to check it on a weekly basis but I am unlikely to be very active on Gaia any time soon because of college and my own writing.

Name: The name is fine as it is but if it were to change it needs to be catchy. and rememberable.
Gold: Possibley a small fee oh say 100 gold would be reasonable. Then the guild wouldn't overcrowd and then the guild would make some extra funds. Public: No, if we do so random people will come in and post random crap to make our guild ruthlessly filled with nonsence and uncreative stories. if we stay private at least we can stop filth. Organization: I really dont have any one-way-or-another on this one.
