Let's see..Okay, it's like this. I'm a freshman in a senior band, and our director just announced we've been invited to play in Carnegie Hall in New York. It kinda intimidates me, and I need some tips from others who've been in this situation. For the record, I'm a clarineteer. sweatdrop

Practice your scales. Especially chromatic, and ones that go above and below the break.
Clarinet parts have tons of runs in them, and your fingers need to be able to fly. The faster you can go up and down the instrument, the better off you'll be when you have to learn those runs.

Totally agree with you there. One thing that's really helped me with runs is thinking about them in terms of a scale. So, instead of it being a 32nd note run starting of G (way above the staff--I'm a floutist) and ending on F (on the staff), I think of it more as an E flat scale starting on G blah blah blah.

Oohh, I see what you two mean. whee Hopefully if I do the scale enough then it'll come to me naturally when I'm playing, then. Thanks for the tips!

Wish I had any advice, but I've never been in that kind of situation. The most intimidating I've been in was performing right before a large, very good college Jazz band, with them watching...that and I play sax, which is much easier than clarinet. Good luck, though!

-[[Take a little bit of time everyday to reflect on bits and pieces of life. Relax and view life to its max.]]-

Last year, our top band went there. Spent a heckuva lot of time sightseeing.

It's not that intimidating. Why? You don't have to be that good to perform there anymore. How is it any different from performing anywhere else? Practice your music like you always have. It should always be your best, anyway.

I'll be in a more intimidating position in August 2008, but I won't spread anything yet. Until it's confirmed, it's a secret. =o
