I try and go on something called ASP. Appalachian Service Project. *i say try because this year i was not able to go because my parents wouldn't let me sad * I've been going there for two years so far and it's really amazing. My first year i helped this lady with two lovely children whose house*trailer* was falling apart. I don't wantn to give that many detials just because if they ever find this post somehow *they did have internet eek * i don't want them to be embarassed. But...our crew went in there and helped redo their kitchen, bathroom, and deck. These things may sound like nothing..but when you look at how they were living it really needed to be done. Most kids in that area never graduated high school..and one of the daughters who was about my age was very smart..and one dream she wanted was to graduate high school when everyone and everything else said she couldn't.
ASP is something that is an 8 week program in which a new family each week over a period of 8 weeks goes to help a specific family and what they need done. In the appalachian aera...most of the houses are really bad. Heat in winter and AC in summer is a take for granted thing for most..but not for them. Even things like running water and a bathroom inside their homes was only a dream to some faimilies. That was until ASP came to the rescue smile
It makes me so angry though when the united states goes out and helps other counties when our own country so deperately needs the help! People just try and forget the fact that people still live like this...and shows like "extreme home makeover edition" make me angry because if they divided what they do for one house to 10 families that REALLY need it *not just whose mommy just died* then they could get SO much more done! Really NO ONE needs such huge amazing houses. But people NEED Heat in the winter. You don't hear them writing to shows to "make my house over!"

You're very correct indeed: People should concentrate on aiding a lot of people who truly need help, and merely dream of decent living conditions.
