In 2001/2002, the TRAX was developed as a four-member rock band in Korea by SM Entertainment, known for producing big names such as H.O.T., Shinhwa, and BoA*. Through the Starlight Academy system, the bandmembers practiced and honed their musicanship and were selected to form the TRAX.
The TRAX began with Rose and Attack, where Attack was the lead vocalist and guitarist. When X-mas joined, Attack took up the bass and Rose focused on the drums. Finally, Typhoon entered and the band was complete.
In 2003, the famous Japanese musician/producer, Yoshiki Hayashi. As the leader and drummer/pianist in X-Japan, an extremely popular rock band in the 80s and 90s, Yoshiki is well versed in many aspects of the entertainment industry and is work with SM Entertainment to produce the TRAX for both Korean and Japanese audiences.
The TRAX's first single, Paradox, was released in July 2004 in Korea exclusively. Although they had recorded a Japanese version, it was never released due to copyright issues. The song "Paradox" itself features rapping by Rose and screaming by Attack. The third song, "Are you ready?," was written by Rose. In December of that year, a photobook edition of the single was released that included a cd of the PV.
Their second release was Scorpio which was released in both Korea and Japan. However, the Japanese released lacked two songs composed by Rose: the piano and rock versions of "Over the rainbow...?." They felt that their meaning was lost in the translation from Korean to Japanese and decided to withhold the song from the Japanese release. Other differences between the Korean and Japanese releases are the lack of the full arrangement and the band singing backup. Most notably in the Japanese version of "Scorpio," Attack does not provide the vocals that he did in the Korean version. Their c/w song, "Beat Traitor, "was featured in the Korean release of the film, "Cube Zero."
The band's third release, Rhapsody, was recorded in Japanese and features only two tracks. The first song, "Rhapsody," was composed by Yoshiki while the c/w, "Vampire," was written by Rose.
