Hey wow I'm looking at applying for a job in Shanghai but I live in Singapore... I wondering if any of you can tell me a bit more about life there and how hard is it to like rent an apartment or something whee *newbie to travelling and stuff*
To be really on topic I speak mandarin chinese and I can understand some hokkein and teochew dialect so no shanghainese sorry sweatdrop

Shanghainese! I kan speak it better than Mandarin but i can speak English the best...

I only know tidbits of it, so I hardly managed to survive during my trip to Shanghai. But just take a look at my language scale:
English>French>Mandarin>Japanese? xD>Cantonese/Shanghainese

My Shanghainese beats my Mandarin...big time. Since my dad and my mom both speak Shanghainese, I can speak it too. biggrin

Nope. Just Cantonese, Mandarin, English, and some French.(French 1 I think). My grandpa speaks it though. My mom doesn't though, so I don't.

wow... i have no clue about anything Shang Hai nese. sweatdrop i feel outnumbered or something or idk. like i only know Mandarin, Cantonese, English, and learning Japanese still. *sigh* other people know French and stuff. but i probably will know Spanish next year and forget it.

I was born in Hangzhou, but I grew up in shanghai and lived there for about 7 years or so.

I can understand shanghainese almost perfectly but I can only speak a few words.
