Ok...in the thread I posted a link to...someone said this, among other things...but this was in response to my skepticism, as a practioner of druidic astrology through my religion, and Romany astrology through my blood...this new idea seemed strange to me, having alot of set in ancestral views on the subject.
If there is truth in this, I have about 19 generations of Rom to contradict for the sake of accuracy...

Here's a site with some actual info. And here's a cute little chart from that link for those who refuse evidence unless I shove it into the thread:

Two Zodiac Wheels. The inner wheel is the Tropical Zodiac, the conventional Zodiac in Western Astrology. The outer wheel is the actual Zodiac: the real Sun Signs. There is little agreement between them: only 39 days out of 365. The Vernal Equinox is marked at the top. In the Tropical Zodiac this is traditionally the start of Aries. In fact, the Sun can be seen against the sign of Pisces at Vernal Equinox. Hence we are in the Age of Pisces. [Oph. = Ophiuchus]

Astrology is not based on planets passing through the celestial constellations. Western Tropical (tropos - turning) Astrology is, and has always been, based on the turning of the seasons (spring, summer, autumn, and winter). And yes... there is another zodiac, the "Sidereal Zodiac," that astronomers, Vedic Astrologers (originating out of India), and a few Western Sidereal Astrologers use; and the Sidereal Zodiac is loosely based on the planets passing through the celestial constellations.

I read that the actual constelations and the sun's position in them were used as measuring devices for observable variations in characteristics that were more likely caused by differences in the energy put out by the sun at different times of the year, and it's affect on the foetus. As such, the fact that the constelations no longer match up to the signs they represent is basically irrelevant, since people born within a given period of time still have the traits associated with that time. The constelations themselves aren't actually having an influence.

That applies to Ophiuchus too, I think. It's there, but if it were to be included in the zodiac, the division would no longer be even. If you go by where the sun is, there are only six or so days in which a scorpio can be born. Times would also have to be altered to account for the fact that some constelations, such as pisces, are a lot larger than others.

I read something a LONG time ago that there was a 13th sign called the spider, so I looked into it. But when they described it, it sounded exactly like scorpio! confused stare It was weird. But i was like, 11 at the time...

I knew I wasn't going crazy! I read a book a long time ago (I was just starting 4th grade) and that's when I found out about astrology. The book said I was an Ophiuchus or whatever and I asked my teacher and she looked at me crazy and said I was a Sag...she didn't believe the book emo . But I knew I wasn't crazy!

It said on the site you may be the sign BEFORE the sign you thought you were. I'm not moving on with the facts. I'm still a Taurus =o Yea, the 13th sign sounds interesting though.

how cool, you're an Ophiuchus? That sort of makes you kind of special, very unique.
